This drive has been a huge improvement over stock but recently it has been heating up. As I type this I have the following showing through iStat Pro with no programs open or running:
(all Fahrenheit)

HD: 97 degrees
CPU: 178 degrees
Heat sink: 153 degrees

Do these looks normal?

Current temps now:
HD: 104
CPU: 167

Fan audibly on

The CPU has been on 104 for a while now. This drive runs hot for sure. Thx for info.

this is why i chose the Scorpio Blue rather than Black when I did my upgrade last time

I heard about the overheating issues with the black and also decreased battery life

Did you happen to put the MBP on a soft surface when it overheats? (eg. a bed?)

I will put a blanket on my lap and the Mac on top of it as it is so hot.

I had around the same temps when I first installed my optibay with that drive. After resetting my mbp a couple of times, the temps dropped back down to regular levels. Weird...

Maybe I should try a reset? Is it easy to do?

i also have the 13" i5, 2011 8GB crucial ram and 750GB HD black.. all installed yesterday.. loving it.. runs like the stock 320GB

I haven't had any heat problems, but I've had THREE of them fail on me...

working... working... "click, click, click... screeeeech" dead!

I ended up doing a reset a few times and everything is great. Thanks for the info. :)
