I'm not sure that makes sense. If Mac sales are down, having computers with M2 & M3 family look obsolete isn't going to do any good for sales. It might not matter much but it will depress sales somewhat since anyone paying attention will know that the M4 family is coming soon.
This is exactly what I am experiencing with the M4 chip in the iPad Pro

As soon as Apple releases a new Macbook and if I did end up getting my M3 Air, my M3 Air will then feel old.

With all due respect, that's entirely a you problem. Just as the M1 Air is still a highly capable and modern laptop by any reasonable metric, the M3 will be for years to come. What you're describing is just the psychological phenomenon of feeling that what you have loses worth and desirability as soon as something newer comes along, even if the improvement is more theoretical than practical.

It’s inevitable. Whatever Apple product you buy, whenever you make your purchase, after a short time it is inevitable it will be replaced by a newer faster more capable product.

It is no use worrying about it. Or trying to optimize the timing of your purchases. Just get what you need, when you need it. There will always be something better if you choose to wait.

For sure but fact is that it has last gen’s chip and not the latest one. So it simply is not as good as it could be.

Agree but this happened after a few weeks so it’s a bit of bad luck. It happened to me too and I think next time I will be more relaxed and check the refurbished site.

That's the nature of technology though. The next chip is always well in development when the current chip comes out. Within a few months of M4 MBAs being available, the M5 will likely debut. Better just to worry about buying what suits your needs at the time, and be happy with it until it no longer does. In the world of tech, you're never going to have have the best or latest device for more than a year at most.

Sure but you can have good and bad timing. I think the timing of the M4 is quite strange cause if the new MBPs really come out end of this year as Gurman said they will be equipped with a chip which is already half a year old so not really new anymore and might be replaced in a very short time.
