Einstein said that nature invented time so that everything wouldn't happen all at once. I think Apple has put the pencil in the iPad Pro to try it out first, to learn how to manufacture it, to see the reaction of the public. Eventually the iPad Air 3 will get the pencil.
Add that to the fact that those who just prefer the iPad Air size won't see their device obsoleted by the iPad Pro. The mini 4 needed the upgrade TBQH because last year it didn't get one. I wish they would just release when ready rather than hold releases until the end of the year TBQH. The size should be the only difference between the mini, air and pro line of iPads.

I don't really see there ever being parity between the Air and Pro. There is parity between Mini and Air because the main differentiator that people want is screen size. That is not necessarily the case with the Pro. People want a bigger screen for the Pro, but also the hardware features that make it pro such as double the RAM, better CPU, more speakers, etc. People getting the Pro generally aren't doing it because they want a bigger screen size, whereas people buying a Mini are doing it generally because they want a smaller screen size.

Exactly. The iPad Pro would be called the iPad + if it was just about a larger screen. If they are calling it Pro, then they better include some pro features to help differentiate.

I think the Air and Pro can both be top of the line models but in different respects.

For example, the Pro has Pencil and the Air gets 3D Touch. The Pro has to be distinguished from the Air somehow, but it doesn't mean the Air needs to be lacking.

Also a good point. I don't see the pencil being that feature.

Which totally sucks for me, because I really just want to use the Pencil, lol, but don't REALLY want the pro.

I doubt it will get Pencil support. I would LOVE that, but it would require a resolution bump

I don't think resolution bump is necessary for the Pencil support.

Apple just need to add the hardware component in the display that corresponds with apple pencil, which isn't worth much imo. And variable refresh rate, which they'll add anyway since it'll save battery life.

Not completely true! Apple significantly upgraded the price. Oops...  :D

For example....

We don't expect it to have 4GB ram, not 4 speakers, screen that doesnt support the new pen, and maybe not even an A9X (A9?).

But will it have some features that are on iphone 6S that are not on the Pro?

Such as 3D touch, and the new 7000 aluminum casing?

After all it is being released at earliest Spring 2016.
I honestly hope it does have 4GB ram....
