I agree. Whatever the next update is, it won't be a major one like the iPhone 4 was. I'm anticipating a slight speed bump, maybe a capacity bump, and hopefully a white option. I don't think we'll get the dual-core LTE phone people are expecting until 2012.

If there is one common theme on these forums it's high expectations only to be let down on announcement day. I believe you are correct.

Chances are anything that comes out this summer won't be big enough to disappoint the vast majority of Verizon users who purchased the phone in February. The new software, of course, will be available for all the later generation iPhones.

apple has already shown us the road map based on previous releases, and the schedule is every 2 years for a major revamp. since the last major revamp came l ast year this year will be minor changes and the next revamp will be next year.

seems funny how some seem to ignore the this. apple has proven time and again they are a creature of habit, they work on their own time table and could care less what everyone else is doing. as for needing to keep up with the competition. no one has even come close the overall iPhone experience. all the cell phone companies can put phones together that have touch screens but that isn't what makes an iphone an iphone. it's the OS and right now no one has caught up in that regard, not even android

There will probably be a 3 month wait...GSM iphone in June, CDMA in like September. People will be less angry. Apple is known to have different release dates for countries...ipad rolled out over time, as does the iphone by the way.

There was already a new AT&T commercial this morning, that they are rolling out LTE: iPhone 5 is inevitable this summer, and...haha...Verizon won't get one for 6 months later...mwahahahaha! :)

proof? ATT is doing anything right now due to them being pissed off with the verizon phone.

+1 to this....

However if you want guesses....my money is on yes.

Agree 100%. No one really knows, but i'd say yes. I highly doubt they're going to F Verizon customers by making them wait an extra 6 months for each new iPhone.

The iPhone is sold all over the world to various carriers.

New versions of the iPhone are released every year, and always released worldwide within a few months of July.

What makes Verizon so special as to delay their iPhone 5 till next year.

I would be that the iPhone 5 will be unveiled in June, and released worldwide within a few months of that date to every carrier, including Verizon.

they aren't delaying the iphone 5, this is a mid cycle year, so it will be the iphone 4x, the iphone 5 is next year, just like the iphone 3G and the following year 3GS, then 4. see the pattern?

They abandoned the whole 3G then 3GS thing because it was getting confusing.

The iPhone 4 is the 4th generation iPhone. And the iPhone 5 will be the 5th generation iPhone.

my thoughts...

Verizon iPhone 4 - Feb 2010
iPad 2 - April 2010
AT&T iPhone 5 - June 2010
Verizon/AT&T iPhone 6 w/4G - June 2011

they can name it whatever the hell the want, but the road map is still the same, the iphone is on a 2 year refresh cycle and until apple announces different and says they are revamping the whole damn thing every year or 6 months or whatever this is what we know. we are right now in mid cycle so intermediate update which means maybe an increase in capacity, maybe an upgraded CPU, maybe some more RAM/cache. and some software upgrade. the redesign will be next year

My thoughts about iOS devices until 4g iPhone.

February 2011 - Verizon iPhone 4
March 2011 - iPad 2 (WiFi/GSM/CDMA versions)
September 2011 - iPod Touch
November 2011 - iPhone 5 (GSM/CDMA versions)
April 2012 - iPad 3 (Wifi/GSM/CDMA/LTE versions)
August 2012 -iPod Touch
November 2012 - iPhone 6 (GSM/CDMA/LTE versions)

I think Apple will keep GSM and CDMA versions of the iPhone even when a LTE version is released to appeal to the lower income people who want an iPhone, but not the higher price of LTE phones and plan prices.

The leaked images last week were the next AT&T iPhone. Call it the iPhone 4S or whatever but the new phone for at&t will look just like the iPhone 4CDMA but will have a sim card slot. It will probably have some small upgrades, and be available in white. It may support HSPA+.

The iPhone 5 will be out next year and will be a multiple carrier phone that supports CDMA/GSM/LTE/HSPA+.

Apple has been adding carriers to the iPhone at random intervals all over the world for years. This isn't any different.

They release it on a new carrier based on when they finally finish the deal in that country with that carrier, then that carrier hops on the once a year iPhone summer hardware update train and rides along with everyone else from there.

I can only recall china getting a special hardware version same way that verizon is getting theirs. From then on they get updated midyear like all the rest.

Right?

My timeline

February 2011 - iPhone 4CDMA

June 2011 - iPhone 4S (GSM with minor upgrades)

February 2012 - iPhone 5 (GSM/CDMA/HSPA+/LTE)

I agree with you there and would add that I feel the hardware also contributes to the overall iPhone experience. Apple knows how to make a sexy product and a quality one to boot.

I think LTE/4G is too new. Verizon's network only works in a handful of cities. I think we will have an iphone 4GS with a speed bump and att will get it first then Verizon. People will be mad if they just got a new phone then in six months its old... don't think so.

AT&T already said no 4g iPhone until 2012.

My bet is on a new iOS for June 2011 and an new "world" iPhone next February.

Looks like the iPad and iPhone switched spots in the fiscal year. iPhone in february and iPad in June.

No, Att said no LTE iPhone until 2012 Att calling HSPA+ 4G also

No That Att commercial said 4G not LTE Att calling HSPA+ 4G also

iphone 5? no. I bet anything its an iphone 4s or 4hd. Theyre not going to revamp the entire phone again yet

I agree as well. This is based on Apple's previous performance and two year cycle for recent phones.

2007 - iPhone 1 (Major)
2008 - iPhone 3G (Major)
2009 - iPhone 3GS (Minor)
2010 - iPhone4 (Major)
2011 - iPhone4s/hd/whatnot (prediction - Minor)
2012 - iPhone5 (prediction - Major, maybe LTE?)

Could Apple go to a faster update cycle like the Android phones. Sure. Do they want to when they're selling them as fast as they make them? I don't think so.

AT&T continues to get screwed by Apple & this crappy iPhone 4. Apples not about to admit it's a bad design. Eventually at some point the next gen is released & finally AT&T gets a decent iPhone. Simple as that. Apples never wrong. Their apologists prevail, and only Apple wins as usual. Some things never change.

Right?

This makes perfect sense. I predict Verizon will get the new iPhone in the summer like everyone else.

It's like what Tim Cook said at the event yesterday. They made this phone for Verizon because customers wanted it NOW. This won't affect Apple's yearly cycle.
