I'm having a similar problem. I'm not crashing for say.. or of a HUGE lag time when starting apps and moving from Contacts/Phone to SMS or anything for that matter.

before i did the 2.0 update aps would open smooth and fast. now there is a lag... white screen for a few seconds then POP the ap will open up.

when going from an ap to the home screen the smooth transition is gone.. now it's choppy like it's having a brain freeze.

Rather annoying.....

Well, fridays nearly done and no update yet. Shame, I thought that as iTunes 7.7.1 was released the iPhone update/fix must be coming.

Its the one thing that bugs me about Apple, it's one thing to not announce new products (fair enough) but when this many users are having problems an official acknowledgement that an update was coming (even if they said 'a week or two') would make a lot of people feel better about their purchase. I've been lucky, and not had the random resets etc that others have, but a few friends who have bought iPhones after me raving about my first gen are now quite dissapointed, and expected better.

maybe next week...

Just in case you guys don't know, you can do a force reboot by Holding the Hold button on top and the Home Button.

One time my iPhone froze big time and I know that all Apple products have some kind of super button combination, so I tried everything :D

sadly I think we'll all remember 2.0 for a long time to come. though it introduced so many great features to the platform, it also brought in a slew of bugs that really make using the iPhone much less of a pleasure than it was pre-2.0.

Probably the worst for me is the lag in typing, opening contacts and email.

But us first generation owners know how great the phone can be, and bug free, so let's all be patient and see what 2.1 brings us

What are peoples thoughts on this anyway, will we see 2.0.1 in a few days, or are we stuck till sept for 2.1?

Seems odd to me to have two versions being developed at once.

I hope they do it soon. I forgot about the lag in typing since i got so fed up with the lag i have cut back on my I phone typing....

I also noticed that after the update my phone will heat up from time to time.. just sitting there the phone will get hot. The only way to fix this is to do a hard reboot.. it's almost as if the phone is trying to process something and is stuck in a loop..

a little off topic.. i just saw that 16gb 3gs are going for like 850 - 1000 on ebay.. .crazy.... just crazy.

I would hope to see 2.0.1 in a few days (... after launch, that is). I'm a tiny bit surprised it isn't here yet, to be honest.

In fact, it's getting so long that I'm starting to think we may just have to wait until 2.1 - which would be a real shame.

I'm willing to bet we either get 2.0.1 in a couple days, or will just have to wait for 2.1. I just can't see 2.0.1 and 2.1 coming out within a few weeks of each other; seems a bit too close.

Oh those carefree days of iPhone life pre 2.0...
They were great, weren't they? I miss that experience sooo much.

very windowesque performance thus far. it doesn't inspire alot of confidence in someone who is experiencing apple products for the first time like myself. i always thought they "just worked."

Oh please. Windows and Windows Mobile is ten times better than this piece of crap 2.0 software.

Enough with the apple fanboyism/Microsoft hatred please.

Email hangs appear to be my biggest issue; not sure, but might involve the changes from going from WiFi to 3G and back and forth. Wife has to reboot her email app at least once a day.

I agree. I have been so embarrassed lately when trying to lookup someone's phone number in front of someone. Click on Contacts and the list comes up. I can swipe my finger up or down about 6 times (about a second between) before the list even starts to scroll, then when I click on a contact it takes another 5 or more seconds to display.

2.0

I've been waiting for this since day one. Where is Apple with damage control, the longer they delay 2.0.1 the more users they irritate. If this continues I see real problems with sales of next years iPhone. Let's go Apple, this is already overdue!

Because I had a Windows Mobile smartphone for a year and in all that time it probably crashed about twice. My iPhone 3G crashed twice in the first evening I had it.

Hey I have an easy fix for you....return your iPhone and get a Windows mobile device. Seriously...why be unhappy and complain when you can return it and go back to the blissful world of Windows where there are no problems. I certainly wouldn't keep a device that I felt was so gawd awful and inferior when there is a clearly superior alternative (in your estimation). Doesn't make sense to me...

My phone hasn't booted for over an hour and fifteen minutes now but there is information on there that I need and iTunes songs I purchased so I really don't want to restore.
Your purchased music and applications will come back over after you restore.

But I prefer my iPhone, simple as that really. However, the Windows mobile phone I had didn't take 1hr+ to backup everytime I wanted it synced, it didn't crash ten times a day, the plastic back didn't crack, I didn't get stuck pixels every few days etc etc...

My point is, for all these lectures about how supposedly things "just work" with Apple, the Get a Mac ads etc... and Windows and other MS products crashes all the time - it's all just rubbish really, and more Apple propaganda.

As I said, I love Apple and I love my iPhone, but I find the fanboyism and false pretenses about the company to be very annoying, especially in the context of such an OUTRAGEOUSLY flawed device like the iPhone 3G.

Get 2.0.1 or whatever to us, fix the crashing, improve on build and iTunes integration, and it'll be bliss. In the mean time, this new iPhone of mine is a lesson in frustration.

calm down big boy, this is the first apple product i have owned so i hardly qualify as a fanboy. i use windows everyday and have owned a windows mobile phone and they are both buggy as hell. Even with all the 2.0 software bugs, the UI blows winmo out of the water and I would say my winmo phone crashed and lagged about as much as my 2.0 iphone. they will fix it, but they need to hurry up before people start to get impatient. no more resting on your laurels apple!

I thought the whole reason for the sandbox nature of the iPhone was to increase stability. Any time a single program can cause a restart of the entire device there is a huge problem. Even if the application is coded poorly, for the iPhone to allow a complete restart is ridiculous. I raved to my father for the last year about getting a new iPhone once his contract was up with Verizon. Now that he finally does, and is experiencing these kinds of issues, I feel almost embarrased for persuading him to get the device in its current state.

Sure, us technology aficionados can understand that the 2.0 software is entirely new, and certain bugs are to be expected; and trust Apple to fix them. For a casual person whom is experiencing these kind of show stopping bugs that should have been caught in beta testing, it leaves a huge negative first impression.

I have been using Windows Mobile for many years, since it first came out. As a rule, these phones/PDAs are 'buggy', requiring resets and locking up, etc., on a regular basis. I just came to accept it. Like Vista. ;)

I now have an iPhone and love it. I have had some bugs with this one, and I find this a little funny, since Apple is known for being bug free and I come form WM.

I think Steve wanted to get this phone out before everyone else and perhaps it wasn't totally ready. I am confident he will fix it.

Overall, I am happy and hope that cut/past, text forwarding, etc will be addressed with updates.

BS None of my Vista machines (I have 3) ever lock up or crash. The only problem I have is I failed to realize one of my machines only had 1GB of memory before I installed Vista. It's pretty slow if I open up too many programs.....but that's to be expected running Vista w/ Aero enabled on a 4 year old box w/ 1GB of ram and not even a HT proc.

And my WM phones were pretty stable until I started jacking w/ them and adding 3rd party programs. I'd say they didn't crash any more than my 3G iPhone has so far.

2.0 really is buggy. I live high up in central London, with line of sight to the BT Tower. I constantly have 5 bars, but I still get a lot of problems:
- Lots of pages have errors trying to load. Need to reboot.
- MobileMe syncing is rubbish. My changes are often ignored and restored to what they were previously (contact details, email read status...etc)
- Alarm doesn't work. Set 2 alarms on it for this morning. Neither went off until I naturally woke up some hours later and unlocked the phone. Also had some missed calls which appeared only after unlocking.
- GPS hardly ever works. Inside (next to a window) or outside. I keep having to reset settings to bring it back. Sometimes it works (icon stays blue), but there's no circle or dot on the map
- Can almost never access the AppStore. Have 5 bars, 3G, but the store is just blank. No error messages or anything.
- Lots of apps don't work. I bought Super MonkeyBall today (which is rubbish), but it kept crashing on load. I found out that I need to reboot after every couple of launches, probably due to a memory leak (what? The iPhone's memory manager doesn't protect against this?)

My first iPhone on the 1.2 firmware was much better than this. If I could downgrade and keep 3G, I would.

Great posts in this thread......I am hoping too for a quick update to correct some of the more obvious flaws in the 2.0 firmware. But with the delays we have seen recently getting promised releases to the public, I find it hard to believe that Apple would release 2.01 while simultaneously testing 2.1. All we keep reading about is Beta releases of 2.1, and nothing of late regarding an impending 2.01 release.

I hope I am surprised......

Why is that hard to believe. 2.0.0.1 or whatever would only really need minimal interal testing since it will basically be a bugfix update. It will not need to go through the full testing cycle of a more significant update such as 2.1. So yeah...2.0.0.1 could easily have already been tested internally and be released tomorrow for all we know.
