Why does apple insist on making the access point to a battery the front of the device (iphone, ipad, watch) behind a delicate screen instead of the back where it would be SO much easier to get at?
They’ve changed it since iPhone 14. Now iPhone can be disassembled from the front and back.

It always surprises me how much mini hate there is. Makes me wonder if these people feel the same about compact cars and one-bedroom apartments.

Apple should suck it up and make Minis and Pluses on alternating years. Drum up an upgrade cycle.
That's not a bad idea, although my preference would be a mini Pro iPhone. I suppose a mini with the same features as the regular 17 would be good enough, but I am a much bigger user of the telephoto lens on my 15 Pro than the ultrawide.

This is where I disagree with most people. I, personally, think there should be no such thing as a Pro iPhone. All iPhones should have that feature set and capability - merely in different sizes. Yes, the phones would have a higher starting price, but Apple already keeps the previous year's models in the line as a more entry-level option anyways.

Then we disagree only in semantics! I am with you, I miss the days of the singular iPhone. I was already annoyed with Apple when they locked dual cameras behind the phablet form factor with the 7 Plus. Call it Pro or don't, whatever, but they should have the exact same features available with multiple screen sizes.

The sales were terrible for mini. I would never buy one, though I wouldn't have anything against it existing for the people that would, but sales data showed that it wouldn't be viable. The R&D plus cost of the phone far outweigh the income potential. It is what it is, unfortunate for those who like a smaller phone.
I think the mini was competing against the SE, that was also small and even cheaper.

I think the natural thing to do would be to make the SE option smaller again. The 16e just doesn't make much sense in the lineup. Apple released 5 iphones this year:

16e: 6.1" screen, $599
17: 6.3" screen, $799
Air: 6.5" screen, $999
17 pro: 6.3" screen, $1099
17 pro max: 6.9" screen, $1199

There just isn't much diversity there for screen size. I think a "17e" (or 18e?) with a screen less than 6" would make a lot of sense. Many have pointed to the iphone x. That would be perfect (5.8"). They could probably keep that body and many of the components, just upgrade specs and components, maybe charge less than $600 and it would sell well.

The rumor of the Fold is a 5.4” outer screen.
Im pretty sure the outside screen is rumoured to be 5.8” which still is not too bad. Closed will be about the thickness of 2 iphone airs.

Edit - sorry 5.5” display on the outside

To the people saying the iPhone 17 isn't that heavy: I get it, but it's the pure dimensions that are a problem for me. I can't have a brick in my pocket. I'm not even wearing anything tight. I'm a man and I'm wearing normal regular fit sized clothes and I like to have my phone in my pocket. But do you know how retarded it looks to have a brick in your pocket? And it's extremely uncomfortable on top of that, especially when sitting down. Unless you have even bigger pockets. But then you have the risk if your phone falling out.

I'd 100% buy an iPhone 17 Pro Mini. I want the best camera and all the other features, but in mini format.

Most guys seem to pull it off just fine with the phone in their front pocket.

Maybe time to invest in some new pants?
