I picked up an iPhone 4 and have noticed wifi reception really poor, my router is in the living room, when I am in the living room sat 2-3 meters away I get 2 bars max, my iPod touch gets full reception. When I go to the bedroom which is directly above the router the iPod again full bars, the iPhone 1 bar and keeps going off.

I did a bit of searching and it says to open the phone and tighten the little screw for the wifi antenna, I did that and it made no difference.

Any other recommendations? I am on iOS 6.0.1, would updating it help?
