Hey forum
Is there any different between a space gray and silver MacBook Pro when wearing over time. I'm thinking about getting the new 16-inch MacBook Pro, but I'm not exactly sure if I should get the space gray or silver if I want a computer with the best look over time.

Any experiences?

As far as I know, the silver color is just bare aluminum, whereas space grey will have a dark coating applied to it. This means that space grey will show scuffs and wear more as the coating gets scratched. This is why the iPhone 5s didn't come in black: the black iPhone 5 got scuffed way too easily and the silver scratches contrasted with the otherwise black color, which is why Apple came up with the space grey color, which is not as dark.

That said, it doesn't seem to be such a big deal. Scuffs show up on the silver model too if you look close enough.

My space gray 2016 model looks pretty much as new after almost 3 years as my last silver MBP did around the same time. No cases or anything. No special considerations.

I get the space gray, because it's less reflective; that's particularly useful when writing in a car seat or something, and there's lots of sun reflecting off my shirt onto the screen (which is why I wear a black shirt when traveling) and off the keyboard/laptop area onto my shirt.

The darker grey get light colored around the USB C ports with some use, that's why I picked silver. Also it's a classic PowerBook / MacBook color.

Over a few years, the space gray will show wear around ports and edges. Silver will look new. Coming from a 2016 space gray owner. Also everyone get the space gray, your silver laptop will actually feel fresh.

I'm a 2016 space gray owner and my still looks great.

Honestly I was in an Apple store today and there were both colours present. Even though these machines were only on display since Saturday the space gray one looked much grubbier than the silver one. You could see finger prints and smudges all over it. Personally I'm in the silver camp since today!

i know from one of my clients that the spacegrey macbook pro's show dings more (somehow he even indented near the top left usb-C enough but not the corner itself)
also if you've ever seen the bottom-case of someone who doesn't take care of their macbooks they can get some deep scratches that can go past the anodization and looks way more obvious than silver ever did.

that said i dont know how people abuse their machines that much, mine never get to the level i need to worry.
