With the iOS 16.2 and iPadOS 16.2 updates, Apple is enhancing the Weather app through the integration of an Apple News section. Located below the 10-day forecast on iPhone, the Apple News module surfaces relevant regional news stories.

In Raleigh, for example, the app displays a story about hurricanes in the Atlantic, and in San Diego, there is a story about fire season. Content varies based on location, and tapping on a story shown in the Weather app opens up the Apple News app.

Not all cities show news stories at all times and it appears that when there's a weather alert at the top of the app, such as for rain or severe weather alerts, the news module is also removed. It is not clear if weather-related alerts are limited to select cities, or show up only when relevant information is available. As of now, the feature appears to be live only in the United States.

Apple appears to have introduced the new Weather app module server-side, but it is only showing up on devices that are running iOS 16.2 and iPadOS 16.2, suggesting it is meant to be a new feature added with the beta updates.

Any word if this is on the Mac weather app on 13.1 as well? Seems like a very cool feature. I love the weather app after getting to know it a lot more, and this makes it even more fun to use.

Edit: made me realize this could be Apple slowly tricking us into adding ads in the Weather app... There goes the simplistic design.

$5 says we’re going to get climate change panic articles 🙄 (I don’t care about your politics, so don’t bother responding.)

I would like to control when and where I get my articles/news, thank you.

I do hope the news can be turned off, or forced off by deleting the News App.

This is nice, But I want Dark Sky back! Sadly Apple is shutting down the best weather app at the end of the year
The Apple Weather App on the Apple Watch is incredibly difficult to use and does not give minute by minute weather changes which I guess is important if you live somewhere else besides CA.
Does anyone else hate what Apple did to Dark Sky and or hate Apple Weather?

At first glance I thought this meant seeing ads in Weather, but then realized this is actually pretty useful if Apple News is available in your country.
Dear lord, no. 😱 stop giving Apple ideas with ads in weather.

Remember Yahoo weather and how wonderful it was? It was so beautiful even Jony Ive told Yahoo that he was jealous of their weather app.

Then Yahoo effed it all up by shoving ads down our throats and thus ruining it.

Saw this on the latest beta, I don't need the wonderful weather app they just released turning into a weather.com channel. Dump it apple. If I want news I use the web.

Apple: Please don't. I don't use your news app, I don't like your news app intruding into the stocks app, and I want all your curated news to go away. I can manage my own news sources: when I look at the weather app, I want to see only weather data, not journalists opining on the weather or anything else.

100% Agreed!

👏 Well said! Listen to this feedback, Apple. Please no ads. We are already dealing with Elon Musk's random Tweets daily. Don't have the patience.

I don’t like it. Don’t use the news app, don’t need it implemented into the weather app. It looks tacky too.

They just got weather cleaned up with more info when tapping. Then they add this eyesore.

Things like this make me install betas just so I can blow up the feedback app with complaints.
