If that's true, why does my IOS 14 weather app still show a tiny "The Weather Channel" icon in the lower left corner? Also, unlike some others here I'm not getting the hourly forecast in the stock weather app.

It only appears if there’s rainfall set to arrive within the next hour

So, how do we know that some of this is coming from Dark Sky? Because of the hourly data? And then is the rest coming from Weather Channel? You'd think they'd be using Dark Sky for all of the weather data.

Maybe they haven't got it ready for a full on replacement, maybe there's a contract with the Weather Channel that is yet to expire, or maybe it will gradually replace before GM comes out.

All I know is we Australian can only use the old weather app like in iOS 13, iOS 12 etc.
Feels bad.

Dark Sky is probably only available in some countries. I guess the rest of the countries have to stick with The Weather Channel ):

Here’s a screenshot from iOS 14 Weather app & Dark Sky, from just now.

I might come back with the default weather app then. But DarkSky is not even available in Canada. So we'll see

I’m in Canada as well. Last I heard, the explanation was that Canada’s radar system is outdated and Dark Sky can’t come to Canada until it’s updated.

Dark Sky works fine in Australia, but for some reason cannot access radar data here so no short term rain warning. More to do with Aus Gov stupidity that Apple I think.

Yet Dark Sky's website is still active, and its showing hyper-local weather reporting for my neighbourhood in Toronto. So the choice to not have Dark Sky app in Canada (or a proper integration in iOS 14 Weather) has nothing to do with our radar.

Actually, yes it does. Canada doesn’t have access to the radar data necessary for DarkSky to make the calculations it needs. However, Toronto is close enough to the US that we’re blanketed by their radar. But go further north to a cottage on Lake Simcoe and the DarkSky features disappear.

Fair enough. So we end up with the US 'The Weather Channel' (not even the Canadian 'The Weather Network' or Environment Canada) providing Apple's Weather. Great. 🙄

It’s a shame that they didn’t include the UK, since we have it in the Dark Sky app. I know it will come, and no doubt, it will come to other countries, now that Apple own Dark Sky. They have the power to get deals done with other countries that Dark Sky originally couldn’t do.

The widget / full app in Canada:

Next-hour precipitation: as noted, only in US.

Severe weather: haven't had any yet, so idea if this is working.

Significant shifts: beyond forecasted temp, no apparent sign of this on widget or full app.

Multi-day precipitation forecast: beyond usual icons for sun/cloudy/rain/snow, no forecast apparent in widget or full app.

So clearly, some work to be done for outside the US. It looks a lot like the old full app in the meantime - right down to 'The Weather Channel' icon bottom left.
