hello
i don't think I have ever posted here before...
I am trying to rebrand myself and sort of start over.

im a web designer and wordpress developer who thought "how hard could it be to do freelance"... (i theme for wordpress)

Well now I work for a company, but I still have my dreams, and my portfolio needs a major update!!

So i decided it was time for a REAL name. Not {my name} designs, or [my name in some twisted way]. I wanted to brand a new company that showed I offered services for you, rather than focus on me as a designer.

I have literally spent countless hours in my stupid cubicle thinking about every name possible! You name it, i thought it.

taken! taken! taken!

I even bought a book on brand names and contacted the author who told me she doesn't do web design names anymore because they are too hard!! :(

i have papers of others and I seemed to be stuck on the word pixel. I saw another thread here of people helping someone with brand names.
if you can think of other words or something to get my brain moving in the right direction that would be cool....

I have abused thesaurus and tried so hard. Im stuck on a stupid name.
sometimes I come up with a name but no one else except web nerds get it, which makes it somewhat useless....

it's tough indeed because some people buy a name just to resell it

ok I came uo with a good name, but someone in switzerland is using it.
I think I want to add a word onto it sort of like dropbox did in the beginning of its life.

dropbox used to be getdropbox.com

So is there an legal issues with using a named used in switzerland?

Web Design Brand Names

Hello,
Yes you are right on your hand that giving a name to our own brand is quite difficult. I think you should think on “PIXEL PERFECT”. It can be a great brand time. Please let me know whether you like it or not. :)

It's a crowded marketplace you're entering into and yes names are hard.

In all honesty if you're just starting out and working freelance you may do well to simply operate under your own name.

Everything's credited to you and you've got an awesome way to build up a fairly decent portfolio.

I have to agree with Joel. Freelancers and consultants should work under their own name. Save the branding until you have employees and a dedicated location. Individuals who try to look like big outfits come across as inauthentic and untrustworthy in my opinion.

Concept-wise I would stay away from the idea of the "pixel". At a time where the majority of our mobile devices (and soon desktops) are high resolution, the idea of the pixel is a soon-to-be-dated concept. Development-wise we should be pushing resolution independence! Today, pixels and their resulting aesthetic increasingly reference a "retro" view of the 80's and 90's. That is not an idea I would want to connect a new company to.
