crisishost.com seems too good to be true. There's no order form online to pay or anything...seems sketchy. Is it really a legit service?

Yes -- I have 3 websites hosted with them. The guy is very nice and will do anything for ya if need be. talk with him via AIM at: Slim Garbage

Well, as long as we're all still giving recommendations... I've been with Neureal.com for about 6 months now and it's been great. No problems whatsoever. I'm loving multi-domain hosting... currently hosting 5 sites on one account for $6.95 per month.

did you tell the guy at crisishost that I recommended you?

I mentioned that macrumors members recommended me, but I will tell him now that you were the one specifically. I gotta give credit where credit is due, with your permission of course.

http://f2o.org/ is all you need -

They're great. Their main service is free, which is very nice itself and comes with all the extras. 75MB, PHP, MySQL, ASP, you name it. VERY nice.

They also have a paid plan that helps support their free one. I plan on getting one of these later on...

The last 3 years I work with SouthernWebHosting and SouthernWeb a friend of mine has them both, the first is prefered for US sites (faster in US visitors) and the second is also fast for Europe websites (fast enough for Europe visitors.

CEO's name is Robert, if you tell him via e-mail taht you are referal from VAG Design you'll get discounts to any plan.

Domain registration and WHOIS also available.
Trust me, my clients for the last 3 years are directed there and I can guarantie you all that Robert is the best Host cause of the personal touch with any customer, sometimes I wonder how he can handle this :)

I hope you can find there a good home :D

And don't forget to say that you are sent by me VAG or VAG Design.com

Anybody here using MediaTemple?

(übergeek, I saw your post -- do YOU use 'em?)

Their ten bucks a month deal is all I would need.

ICDSoft

I've had them for about a year now and they've been great. They are based in Hong Kong but their English is fine and no hidden costs. First year was USD60 and second USD 40.

Took the plunge with MediaTemple.net

Totally impressed. And there's something to be said for getting a human on the other end of the line at 5:30am.

As a designer, I think their website interface is nicely done. Especially the Web Control panel. Great little icons. Neatly arranged. Logical. Good, clear help docs for assisting with setup.

Yep, I'm in the 'Temple!

I'm shopping around after my latest issues with dot5hosting...

Are people still happy with whoever they went with? Anyone new want to chime in with a suggestion?

mangoman-
How's mt working for you? The 2-year commitment for the $10/month is a big leap, but they look great.

TIA everyone.

www.netrillium.net has yet to do wrong by me. their plans seem very reasonable and their tech support is fast and on the ball. ummm.... I guess that's about it.

Brian-
You've been with them for 3-4 months now, right? If all you have to say are good things, that's not a bad deal.

My main beef with dot5 is that after ****ing up my domain registration twice in the last 24 hours, they have the gall to act like this is routine and do nothing to try to keep my business. I've been pretty clear in my emails with them that I'm not averse to going elsewhere, but that doesn't seem to phase them. Maybe losing my business will...

Yeah, I'm up to 4 months now with them and I honestly can't think of anything I don't like or am unhappy with. Not even in the slightest. I think my only downtime was for a server switch or upgrade or something and that wasn't more than an hour or two at most.

My buddy (aka 'vthokienj' from the php/asp.net post in my other thread) signed up with them too and cancelled after a week (after he found out they didn't support asp.net). Even he has nothing bad to say... apparently they were really helpful even as he was leaving, switching domains, etc.

Probably not what most of you are looking for but I host a variety of websites for free. I have a colocated server with a very fast backbone connection. We started hosting people because we had more bandwidth than we knew what to do with.

We are NOT a wehosting company. Just some guys that started a website that needed more than any shared hosting solution could provide so we went for colocation and started hosting other folks for free (doesn't cost me anything to host more people).

We currently host about 50 websites. We try to stick with sites that make no profit (I don't want to be paying my money so someone else can rake in the cash). A few sites do make some profit but its either so little we don't mind or they just help us out with stuff from time to time. We like to think of ourselves as a community, so people at different sites often end up working together. The graphic designers often help the software developers and such.

I made a little note on one of my sites explaining my philosophy on things:
Lemon Aid

AmbitiousLemon offers free hosting to a variety of websites. We offer free hosting (either full site or just forums) for people and sites who we feel have a genuine interest in contributing to the Mac Community. We feel that too often online sites exploit the Mac community for money or notoriety, while people with good intentions often haven't the money or resources needed to continue offering their software, themes, artwork, advice, etc. We are not a hosting business. We are simply a small group of mac enthusiasts who own a web server with plenty of storage space, cpu cycles, and bandwidth to go around.

Again probably not the sort of solution many of you are looking for but if you need free hosting drop me a line and we will talk. My AIM account runs 24/7 so you can message me there any time (I'm usually around even if it seems I am idle... woohoo Adium) [AIM=AmbitiousLemon].

Rower:

I went with MediaTemple primarily because the company seems to be bullet proof -- and that comes at a cost. To me, it's worth the expense. Sometimes, I believe that you get what you pay for, and I'm hoping that MT is exactly that.

So it wouldn't be a fair review if I jumped on here after what, two weeks, and started foaming at the mouth about them. What I can tell you is that the staff members that I've talked to (24 Hour Support -- god I love that) are friendly, knowledgable, and professional. Just seems like they want my money more than other companies I've dealt with and they're willing to take care of the details in order to get it.

That's my first impression, for what it's worth.

My preferred host is Liquid Web, their costs are pretty low, maybe not quite as low as the others, but innexpensive nonetheless. And the support is very good, not quite as fast as Dreamhost (but still very fast), but I like them more because the answer I got from Dreamhost was hard to understand from what I remember. Another cool thing about Liquid Web is the fact that I got a call about 5 minutes later confirming the purchase!
