So. . got the wife a new IMac this week and she is having a problem with browsers (both Safari and Firefox). Certain websites (or pages on certain websites) don't display correctly. It is making her crazy and she is making me crazy. . .

For example, if I go to www.amazon.com. All looks fine. But if I click on "account" for example, it is displayed in a basic text format with no buttons, wacky formatting, etc.

So far I have tried:
reinstalling safari
deleting prefs
using Firefox (same behavior)

There are no safari addins. Any ideas? Thanks.

First guess: this is a problem you are having only with https, not http connections. Probably something in the ssl validation for the servers they use for hosting image and css content (e.g: static content, as opposed to the main html generating code).

So, is there anything with https proxies that you have been messing around with on your network? I am guessing it is not a setting on the computer, since Safari uses the system-wide proxies, and FireFox uses its own proxy settings (*grumble* *grumble*), which I why I tend to think it is a problem with your network.

Web Pages not Displaying correctly

I had the same problem myself today and I was using Firefox. My solution was to quit the web browser, not just close. When I restarted Firefox the pages displayed correctly.

My mac works fine

My new 2011 Macbook Pro on the same network displays everything fine. Just the wife's. . .

I have not messed around with any settings (on either machine).
