Some friends and I might be developing a website for someone. I'm want to use my Mac as a temporary host for the site. Two questions:

1. I can view the site by typing in http://ipaddress/~myusername/ Is there any way I can set a password on this so that only my friends and I can see the site?

2. How can I set it up for my friends to edit the contents of the site? Do they need access to that folder somehow?

Thanks,

smb

#1 can be accomplished with .htaccess, but it's a long and complicated process maybe someone else can explain.

#2, Go into Sharing Prefs and enable Remote Login. Then download Cyberduck on your friends computer, and log in using SFTP using your username and password.

Using WebDAV would be easier in the end, but that is again hard to set up initially. Mac OS X server makes #1 and #2 really easy though :)
