So…it seems that customized video player UI is now the default on iOS 16. It became the default about one or two versions back on iPad OS, but now it’s also on iOS.
I have two solutions to share.
Solution 1: alternative browser that has adjustable user agents. This is what I do on my iPad; I bought a browser app called iCab Mobile many, many years ago when Safari had significantly fewer features.
Solution 2: a pair of Safari extensions called Vinegar and Baking Soda. Both of them bring back the basic interface; the difference is that Vinegar is meant for YouTube while Baking Soda is meant for everything else. In my experience, you do not need both to make one work best, though at $0.99 a pop, it might as well be an impulse purchase.
Anyone have any other workarounds?
