This is why Apple not only has to put out its own app, but its own hardware. Otherwise, this is going to be a mess of apps and hardware all over the place. I see lots of fragmentation until someone (hopefull Apple) consolidates it all down to something manageable.

WebMD, the homeland security Threat-Level-Red health info service.

Seriously, just use Mayo Clinic if you actually have any health info to look up.

WebMD is so focused on potentially selling you something that everything they list is slanted toward the worst possible thing it could be. Look up headache, they say it could be a brain tumor. Look up stomach ache, could be cancer. Got a hangnail? Leprosy.

Mayo Clinic accepts no ads, and thus has none of that pathetic alarmist propensity. WebMD just wants to scare your money out of you.

wrong

You're not that important.

Actually, that data can be used to see if you're in compliance with medication and WebMD does that through prescriptions and the "voluntary" signup for wellness programs that many employers offer. They follow up on an individual basis because sick time for noncompliance is a big corporate issue. In that world, EVERYONE is important because you're the money.

Holy moly that's scary. Google sells our personal information? I was unaware. How exactly do they do that? I would love to know.

How do you think they and Zickerboy got so rich? Their "free" websites sell your info to marketers and whomever else pays. It's part of your user agreement which of course no one reads. I find it hilarious that people didn't know this. How do think they make money? It certainly is NOT through advertising. Nope. It's using YOUR personal info and preferences to selling to those that pay for it.

Really nice.... Ain't it?

More data collection, more data trading, more privacy issues.

Yup, the $ well is drying up and so they need to mine a new $$$$ hole. (create a new market)

I strongly believe that this is the prime motivator with this whole tech health movement. As a whole no one cared/cares about tracking this stuff, look around you at how fat folks are on average. Its a shrewed business plan to create fresh new revenue (think the whole Yoga business i.e. Lululemon and others.) and they are strongly banking on the payout hence the big push. These companies don't care about your health. Prior to this whole health tracking movement I heard no one crying for these features. From a business standpoint, hmm lets see everyone has a smartphone and everyone knows they should be concerned about their health..... Yeah these companies have their fitted capitalist hats on tight.
