This weeks theme is Photography As Art.

What I'm looking for is an image you have taken that has a strong artistic finish to it, which could be intended from the get-go or accidentally have happened and you didn't see that till back on the computer or in editing. I don't want images of art, but rather images that are artistic in any way. That could be through pattern, repetition, light and shadow use, lines, the surreal, a theme or motif of some sort, it's completely open to interpretation by you.

Here's an example of a simple long exposure sunset image that became art, partly when I got into PP, but partly because I had been chucking ideas around in my minds eye about these giant sand-bags at our local beach for a while before grabbing this one.

Rules:

Be creative and have fun.

You may only submit one photo per contest.

Please do not comment on photos until after the judging has taken place.

The contest runs for exactly one week, starting NOW! (see time/date stamp at the start of this thread.)

At the end of the week, The Judge (last week's Winner) will choose a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place photo, providing as much feedback as possible. (Judge has 24 hours to make decision.)

The 1st place Winner will start a new thread with the topic/theme of their choice, and act as the Judge for that contest. (Winner has 48 hours to create new theme, after that it defers to 2nd place).

I enjoy all kinds of fine art and I am particularly fond of graphic arts, especially art nouveau posters, classic movie posters and vintage travel posters. Here is my homage to travel posters, using a variety of techniques, originating from original photos and then diving into pp. The result should look simple but the process is anything but.

Okay, I'll be back in the morning with results, it's night time here. Thanks to all entries, there's a fantastic diversity of artistic visions at play this week!

I'm really hard-pressed for time at the moment, so I'll only give feedback on the top three for this week in my eyes. Sorry.

For me art evokes a conscious or subconscious response, a thought, or a reaction to the image or object presented as artistic. This will differ from person to person and even within an individuals own lifespan.

3. @The Bad Guy 's Mirror Mirror
This definitely evoked a response from me, mainly around the theme of light and dark within us all.

2. @Ish 's Riverside Walk
I like the clean separation of subject and background, that it's a B&W is a bonus for me too. This could easily fit in amongst other large images in a fine art gallery!

1. @MacRy 's (Oil & Water?)
I'm a sucker for an abstract that you can interpret in many ways and that's what happened at our place with this one, we all interpreted it in different ways. Which to me is absolute art at its best! The conversation moved easily about what everyone saw within it, or how they were affected by it.

Congratulations to @MacRy ! Over to you for the next one.

Congratulations and well done MacRy and well done Bad Guy and everyone! Great photos. Thanks Alex for the kind comments. :)

Are you happy to tell us a bit more about your picture MacRy?

Thanks for the win Alex. No oil was harmed in the making of this photo. It was simply two pieces of black card and I used a pipette to drop water down onto the horizontal piece. It pooled nicely and splashed pleasingly and I liked how it looked. I went into it with an abstract shot in mind so I obviously succeeded :)

I really liked AFB's shot this week. For some reason it made me think of an atomic explosion with a lonely figure facing their fate.

I'll get another contest up and running in a while.
