Merry Go Round

Caught my eye, but was totally unprepared... a park bench acted as my tripod :S

Gosh I new there would be a lot of responses as I chose a wide subject matter. The quality of some of these photos is amazing.

Okay, REALLY difficult decision.

I'm no pro, and CC on such an 'arty' style is really very difficult.

But, here goes……

@fortese

I like your picture, and it fits the theme well. I think you should have had a bit more of the face in focus though.

@jabbott

I love these pictures of the night skies! Awesome colours! How do you know which satellites are which?

@kenwallace

COOL photo! Loads of interestingness! Great expressions.

@techie4life

Another great photo, fitting the theme well. I really want to know whats happening in that room!!

@master-D

Brilliant action shot. Really well done. Shame the main dudes feet are cut off. None the less, a magazine quality shot.

@acearchie

Great capture, you have frozen the car well. I love the horizontal lines of the road as well.

@airborneAngel

Nice feeling of energy in this picture. Looks like fun!

@svenn

Excellent picture! Really cool. I love it. I think I would clone out the bits on the left edge, and then crop the image more.

@iharvest

Brilliant picture! Really good feeling of motion. I love it.

@keleko

Another great 'movement' shot. Great colours.

@JDDavis

Great picture! Cute kid! Great feeling of motion and fun! I love it.

@dmblau

Cool capture! I bet you saw some good stuff at this event! I tried some different crops on it but I reckon you have it pretty spot on.

@heron88

Nice shot! I love the texture.

@styles919

I wondered if someone would post a fairground big wheel! And you have! Good first post, Great colours and a perfect capture. I like the foreground elements too, but for that blurry distracting bit on the left.

@jodelli

Really like this. This is my favourite so far! Really interesting. Where you stood at the back of the train?

@flutegirl822

Cool shot. Really like the motion blur from the can. What exposure did you use?
The shot works really well, but maybe I would have shown the whole basket. Did you try that too?

@patriks7

Great shot! Perfect action capture!

@flosseR

Excellent! And It's your hand! Great skills there! I love the detail. Really suits black and white too.

@shortlong

Interesting photo. It's a shame that the one in red has his arm over his face, but a great photo non the less. The focus seems a little soft, and there is some weird fringing type thing going on around the guys heads. It doesn't detract from the photo though. I like the composition.

@waybo

I like the guys expression! Nice shot. Seems a little flat though? Maybe it's just the colours…they're all quite similar.

@rebby

I like it, but it's a shame that there is not more background, to show the movement. I think you panned it to show motion, but it looks more like you froze the action.

@Love

Nice and dramatic. I think you could do something better with the sky though? It looks over exposed. Maybe a black and white with a nice deep red filter?

@eirpod

Wow! Creative. Took me a while to work it out but what a photo! I really think it works very well.

@chappers

Nice photo. He looks like he is having fun. It's colourful and pops nicely. I also really like your avatar! Freaky!

@steviem

Great shot! it's shame that the front is cut off though.

@indydenny

Great light painting! The background is a little distracting though.

@pakyooh

Really cool photo, another of my favourites! It would definitely look good on my wall!

@intel Inside

Excellent photograph, interesting. I like the ghostly people, and the composition is really great. I like how you got right down to take the shot.

@mattsepeta

Great riding shot. Good lighting.

@mattyb240

Another nice one! I don't really get much of a sense of movement though, as both look stationary. Also the water mark in the middle is really distracting.

@zildlansg

Interesting image! Not what you would call a technically perfect photo, but I really like it.

@GT41

REALLY nice!! perfect capture!! I think it could do with a touch of pp, the light on the right is distracting. Maybe try some different crops?

@plaidhippo

I do really like your photo, and you have picked out the one rider very well indeed. I like the other riders blurriness but looking at the whole picture makes my eyes a bit funny. I know how hard these shots are, and the most important thing when panning is picking out the subject. However, I think I would of tried to blur the background a little more in photoshop.
Because it's sharp, and moving, it's uncomfortable to look at. Maybe a touch of gaussian blur?

Winners????? ARGH!!! There are way more winners than the three I'm allowed to pick, so I'm really just going on the shots I like looking at the best, rather than technical achievement / ability.

Congrats to the winner!
And thanks. I liked the idea that 2nd and 3rd place were differing points of view of subway cars traveling through stations.

Where you stood at the back of the train?

I was at the front of the train, standing next to the driver's cubicle looking forward out through the glass.
It was on the Yonge Street line in Toronto, southbound somewhere south of Bloor.

Wow!!

Thanks CupCakes for voting me as the winner. It was totally unexpected, as this is the first time i have taken part in one of these competitions.

I shall have the new thread up in an hour or so. Time to think of a new subject, Hmm. :D

Congrats Intel Inside and thank you cupcakes2000 for the judging and thorough reviews! To answer your question, I use a program called Heavensat under VirtualBox which allows me to predict and visualize when and where certain sky objects will be. It has a very nice sky simulation feature. There are also websites like Heavens-Above.com which offer similar functionality.

Congrats and Thanks

Congrats to Intel Inside!

And thank you, cupcakes2000 for a great critique! I know it's a lot of work to review each picture, but, as a newbie, I LOVE to read the C&C for ALL of the pictures. I keep learning from this forum. Thank you ALL for taking the time to share your pictures, and for submitting comments throughout this forum to help others. :)
