Right, that’s it! Competition closed. I’m on location and funny enough have 4G for once. I’ll get results as soon as I can.
[doublepost=1533405364][/doublepost]Ok, just going to write up the placing just now in between shots when the timer is on the camera as I wait on the long exposure noise reduction dark frame completing on the camera. Apologies for the lazy write up but I’m going with how good luck played it’s part in your image at a new location and the story behind it. Some people may not agree, but for me, the experience and process is all part of the “product” i.e. the finished photo.

1st: @malofx - this is an epic capture - and I don’t mean in the way the kids use the term “epic” to describe something that barely qualifies as “mildly amusing” or “quite good”. This really is an epic shot of a Landscape I would sorely love to visit some day. A well executed shot with the impending sandstorm and display of light embodying all that new location luck is.

2nd: @Indydenny - Close! Your story and desire to see a place you know very little about and which means a lot to you is topped off with the truest sense of what luck at a new location really is. Please straighten the horizon though :D

3rd: @mollyc - another great story to go with a fine display of what new location luck is. Worth the effort!

Honourable mentions:

@Darmok N Jalad - we all have images that have a lasting effect on us, usually shots involving some form of good luck. I can relate to your story and image, as my first ever digital photo is still something I love looking at.

@needfx - great image! I can see that being used in marketing or a billboard!

@deep diver - I can feel the tension and almost feel the panic in the image.

Well done to everyone else who entered.

Ok, @malofx, over to you!

Thank you so much for your kind words.

Congrats to the winners and honorable mentions and double congrats to @malofx for not only taking a 1st , but for being in a great place at just the right time ! Been to Monument Valley twice and it's been nice and sunny both times , I got great pics , but your entry was light years better than any of mine .

I'm sure your photos are great. Did you get any sunrise photos? mine are okay. I can't wait to go back.

I just sent him a message, but he has not been on MR in 3 days. I suggest we wait one more day and then, per the rules, turn it over to stillcrazyman who got the most likes.

Thank you for the message... I have been moving and busy with moving in, you know, fun stuff... which btw found a bunch of antique items, two projectors from the 70-80s? And a ton of photos from when I used to shoot film (noob era) like super noob.

Yup , the second time I was there I hired one of the Navajo's to take me into the Valley for a dawn shoot . Met him at around 4:30 - 5AM and we set off into the Valley . Can't get in before dawn unless you have a tribe member as an escort . He knew where , and when to be in a number of places .

I plan to do that next time I go. I’ll be in Phoenix in two weeks, and I’m so tempted to drive up and pay for a private tour.

We did camp inside the park, that was amazing.

This is sunrise.

Look again - the bottom of the dress is the petals, the legs and feet the stamens ;)

However, why in this thread?

Cheers :)

Christ that is WAY too deep an interpretation for this early hour in the morning! It’s only 8:30! I haven’t had my second coffee yet! But I get it now. Completely missed it before...

Gorgeous image! Just mesmerising.

Maybe the is the equivalent to drunk dialing for @needfx.

a reasonably plausible assumption

Upskirt images are being made a criminal offence here in the UK! ;)
Granted, I’m not sure this qualifies.

definitely none such qualification

flower macro test, modified IR a7s

Just out of interest, Patrick, is this a skirt with feet in surprising footwear for the formality of the dress, or a composite of a flower and some feet, both with a dotted overlay?

If it's a dress, that looks to be one heck of a froufrou dress!

This is from sometime back, in 2012, shortly after getting serious about digital photography. The place was called Fantasy Of Flight - a privately owned collection of vintage aircraft. I'd heard it was an interesting experience but didn't expect much more than to see a few old planes.
Turns out the man that owned the place also flew all of the aircraft he had restored. The following was a low level flyby I tried to capture with a 90mm macro lens. I was still fairly new at this photography thing...

Been meaning to quote this, but per rules, waiting until comp was over. I LOVE this airplane! The P-51 is undoubtedly beloved worldwide, but I have a particular passion for this incredible machine. Once got to sit in one too! That’s the day I thought life was complete...

Nice. Of course the P-51 is second only to the mighty Merlin powered Spitfire. :p

Just kidding around. I love seeing these flying machines still in the air. There is something special as a child hearing the sound of a Lancaster bomber overhead - obviously even then it was a museum piece. I wasn’t a child when they were in service.

Great pics.

I can’t remember the original power plant of the P-51 “A/B”, but when the Brit’s got hold of the P-51, they decided it wasn’t fast enough and couldn’t perform at altitude, so the Merlin was installed. By the time the P-51 “D” (as shown in all three pics) was released, this was its native power plant.
To me, it’s all the more reason it was such a beautiful plane - American design, British powered, and that was a thing of beauty.
Spitfire is fantastic too! The same airport my photos were taken at, occasionally has a Spitfire on hand for the air show. Not sure if it’s original though, judging by the way they fly it. Perhaps the Spitfire just held up better over time. ;)

Yep.. nice... I imagine they have a Mark XIV supermarine if they are throwing it about. Maneuverability was its ace in the hole.

They certainly are beautiful machines.
