Weekly Photo Contest: January 12 to January 19 – Glorious Sunsets

Welcome to this week's photo contest thread!

Theme: Glorious sunsets abound in the world. In order to combat the cold winter feelings, I thought having some sunshine was a nice idea. Please submit your own vision.
I’m not going to critique the submissions, as I like to accept each image I see on it’s own merits.
I will choose the ‘winner’ next Monday, 19th January 2015.

    Rules:

    1. Be creative and have fun.

    2. Please submit only one photo per contest.

    3. Please do not comment on photos until after the judging has taken place.

    4. The contest runs for exactly one week, starting NOW! (see time/date stamp at the start of this thread)

    5. At the end of the week, The Judge (last week's Winner - me) will choose a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place photo, providing as much feedback as possible. (Judge has 24 hours to make decision)

    6. The 1st place Winner will start a new thread with the topic/theme of their choice, and act as the Judge for that contest. (Winner has 48 hours to create new theme)

To see all of our past contests please see the sticky thread http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=580184

Does it have to be a sunset? I have a few great sunrise shots.

A valid point. I think it might stir up too much angst if we broadened the contest. So I think we should leave it at just sunsets. Sunrises could be a whole other subject. :)

Not my best shot, but I guess it fits the topic. Took this while coming home from my class with my crappy phone. Arizona has some amazing sunsets :)

Hence the state flag! One of the only things I miss about Arizona were the sunsets. The other was the thunderstorms! The heat I'm glad to be rid of. (And I lived in Northern Arizona, where there were actual seasons!)

Anyway, the opposite of Arizona: Sunset on the Oregon Coast, subtitled "You Shall Not Pass".

And, just for fun (not an entry,) since you said about it reminding you of warm, a cold sunset.

Panorama of Sunset at Timberline Lodge, Oregon. (Timberline Lodge is just over the hill at the far right, you can see the peak of it, just barely. Timberline Lodge is probably most famous as it was used for the exterior aerial shots of "The Overlook Hotel" in the movie "The Shining" (The interior looks *NOTHING* like the movie.)) I like it because in the panorama, you can see the sunset itself on the right, and the ground lit up red on the left.

Nobody said it has to be a landscape

I rarely shoot portraits, but here is one of an old friend of mine, catching up under the warm Greek sun after not seeing each other for almost 10 years.

    Poor in comparison

Not a strong entry yet again, but trying to keep entering for feedback.
