We already had "C" and "P", but there are still a couple of letters in the alphabet left! So, let's go with "R" this time. Since these topic resulted in a lot of diverse entries, this should be quite fun.

As always, standard rules apply:

  • The photographs must be your own work.
  • You may only submit one photo per contest.
  • No commenting or liking photos until after the judging has taken place.
  • This contest runs for about a week, starting now.
  • At the end of the competition, the judge (last week's winner) will choose a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place photo, providing as much feedback as possible.
  • The 1st place winner will start a new thread here with the topic/theme of their choice, and act as the judge for that contest. (Winner has 48 hours to create new theme, after that it defers to 2nd place).
  • Be sure to update the Contest Master List as soon as you post a new theme.
  • Contest will end August 7, 2025 at noon CEST.

Technically a turntable but colloquially known as a Record player

A bit later than planned, but here's my judgement:

@aperfectcircle Nice composition with the depth of field pronouncing the tonearm.

@Snowlover Scary! A bit of a pity that the head somewhat gets lost in the shadow, but I definitely would have thought twice to stay too long to find a better position.

@Strider64 Marvelous picture with vibrant colours and a nice isolation of the birds.

@StrollerEd The colour and the depth of field make the roses stand out.

@C0ncreteBl0nde Sneaky! When I first saw that photo it took me a second or so to find the actual subject here.

@goldmac2006 I'm guessing this is some students' robot building contest? These are always fun displays of inguenity. A slightly different crop would get rid of the empty parts of the mat at the bottom.

@oblomow Great composition with the roughly equal distribution of sky and ground broken up by the sign.

@iPhone-Guy These stacks always take some patience to build. Did you pile these rocks or did you find them like this? I can see why you chose this angle, but I feel the center pile gets a bit lost in the slightly busy background.

@kendallm A very captivating image with the composition and distribution of light and dark guiding the eye to the embarking passenger. (Weirdly enough, the image feels slightly tilted to the left for me, but as far as I can see, it's objectively straight... 🤔)

@arkitect The contrast of the vibrant colours and the stark shadows make for a very compelling picture.

@EllieCat Unfortunately posted too late to qualify for a position, but lemurs are always welcome. I only hope their enclosure is larger than what can be seen in the photo...

So, here's my top 3:

3rd place: shared by @C0ncreteBl0nde and @oblomow

2nd place: @arkitect

1st place: @Strider64

Yep it’s the rover robotics building competition that I did in my previous job at NASA NCAS. Thanks for the input. And that build really led to us getting first place, we really almost grabbed Olympus mons.
