Card 100% thrown, no camera trickery here. Two hundred and ninety attempts, and unfortunately, I am not joking.

Only a couple more hours until the contest is closed. Looks like I already have my work cut out for me though.

btw, i didn't mean that it specifically had to be a the shallowest of DOF...

I'll be back later with the results. :)

Not the best, but with the contest about to end I'll add this, a more abstract look at the depth of field category:

JDK5+

NeGRit0.....you out there? We're past the 24hr period to judge. Zildjansg and Elfy were the runners up from the previous contest. I'll PM NeGRit0.

Sorry for the delay, Had to take care of real life last night, and mondays are extremely busy for me. I'm dead tired, but here goes...

gaswerks: I like that you didnt opt to completely blur out the the full background.

dslade09: I dig the lines, and symmetry, but i think maybe a deeper DOF so the letters toward the bottom are all in focus.

Keleko: I loved this when I saw it in the photo of the day thread. its well composed, exposed correctly, and sharp where it should be, well done.

Nicolasdec: I like the tones in this.

NeverhadaPC: I do like it. I like the composition, and subject. to me it says that beauty can be found anywhere.

Educ8r: Tranquil scene, good use of DOF to set it apart.

deep diver: I really like the DOF, but I want to see the full face of the statue, or at least a little more of it.

fcortese: I like the DOF, set the separation, and gives my eye somewhere to come to rest.

cupcakes2000: I really like this, except for the great deal of negative space at the bottom. perhaps a tighter crop so it landscape instead of portrait?

chappers: I remember this from a while back. cute idea, i like it.

fujiko7: nice scene, but i'd prefer the more so on the flowers, than a random section of the grass.

sidefx: I like the composition of this, and the texture that the b&w gives it.

h1r0ll3r: Yeah, id say that counts. neat shot!

pukifloyd: niiiiiice, im always up for a good car shot.

zildjansg: I'm not sure what it is about this one, but i really like it.

Ryan1524: Nice, thats super sharp, what lens you shoot that with?

Ravaroo: clever. is that an old shot, or you do it for the contest?

jpez: with out the title, i dont think i would have ever figured out what it was, but now that i know i really like the angle.

ScottInTheOC: Looks delicious! i like the contrast between the green an the red.

acearchie: im diggin the natural lighting

Love: I like the idea, but it bothers me that i cant see either face.

pakyooh: the classic puppy portrait, very nice.

JDDAvis: Awesome image, but I cant tell if there is any DOF or if its just all photoshop.

bootedbear: good exposure, but the line have my eye going all over, im not sure what the main focus is.

hisdem: very nice, love how the sun is making the top leaves glow.

waybo: Wow, good capture!

ironicall: awesome portrait.

elfy: this is really cool, you think it was worth the 290 attempts? i do, its a really cool shot.

beaverman3001: good shot. it may be my eyes, but it seems a tad bit soft.

rusty2192: this is a neat shot, but the darkness in the top right draws my eye from the focused portion

mackmgg: clever, i like the use of bokeh

Mac-Key: very judicial. i'd like to see more of the words on the paper in focus.

without further ado...

1. Keleko
2. ironicall
3. elfy

Again, my apologies for the delay.

Oh my! I actually won! There are some really good shots here. I particularly like Waybo and JD's shots. JD, I'm curious if you used selective coloring or if it's a focused light.

I'll get the new thread up this afternoon/evening after work.

Thanks, Keleko ... and congratulations! Thanks, too, to NeGRit0.

Thanks. You picked some great winners. No photoshop. I never use it, only Aperture. There's no real DOF generated by the camera. I was using a flash at night so there was a small aperture. I thougth the light and post processing kind of gave it a shallow DOF feel. I couldn't decide if it fit the contest or not.

Both really. It was taken at night with an off camera flash and then I just used Aperture to accentuate everything. I tried to get the backgroud as dark as I could with the camera and I did take what little color was left out of the background and darken up the black as much as I could in post.
