Wild Rose And Wind Belt
Went back quite a ways and did not find this one, so here we go. Trains or anything related to trains.

  • The photographs must be your own work. No AI generated images.
  • You may only submit one photo per contest.
  • No commenting or liking photos until after the judging has taken place.
  • This contest runs for about a week, starting now.
  • At the end of the competition, the judge (last week's winner) will choose a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place photo, providing as much feedback as possible.
  • The 1st place winner will start a new thread here with the topic/theme of their choice, and act as the judge for that contest. (Winner has 48 hours to create new theme, after that it defers to 2nd place).
  • Be sure to update the Contest Master List as soon as you post a new theme.
  • Contest will end November 28, 2025 at 6PM Mountain Standard Time.

Went to update the master list but could not figure out how to do the link. May just be that my browser has gone soft in the head. If anyone can straighten it out it would be appreciated.

Sorry did not mean to close that quite so early. Thanks to everyone for some really solid images and for making my job really tough.

@goldmac2006
Normally I try to limit comments to what could be done post image. Will make an exception here. You had the camera tilted down when you took the image. A more level approach would have removed a lot of the black foreground and improved perspective as well. I do like seeing a large scale model RR layout and it's really nice to see kids enjoying it.

@cjsuk
A lot of elements that are normally considered compositionally inept. It's split half and half vertically and horizontally plus the eye is drawn to absolute dead center of the image. And somehow it works perfectly. I really like this image.

@oblomow
This image creates a soft mood I really like. I do find the cluster of lights on the left distracting.

@thirsty_monk
I'm a sucker for the wood track. An old school toy and right on topic. Like that you kept the background so soft.

@C0ncreteBl0nde
Nice and crisp even though it's through the window. Nice contrast between the interior of the car and world just outside.

@someoldguy
Love the B&W approach here, and the capture. Were it my image I would crop square eliminating about half that pillar on the right, I would also rotate it just a smidge counterclockwise.

@mtbdudex
I like this one. I could say it seems a bit dark overall, but that may be a difference in how we adjust our monitors.

@squawk7000
Very well done

@_timo_redux_
This was a quickly changing scene. Ideally camera should have been rotated a bit further left. Kind of a Catch-22 on the horizon line. Straighten it out and you lose much of the hill aspect, which is an important part of the image.

@Janichsan
Great image. Keeping detail in whites is always challenging but you got it bang on. Too bad the gal in the foreground didn't have a better expression.

@AlixSPQR
Love the backlighting-haze-sunset combo. The eye is drawn more or less to dead center, but it still works well.

Man I had trouble deciding on podium order here. Suspect if I walk away and come back in 15 minutes it might change completely. If I did not have to put someone on the hook for the next contest, I'd have called it a 4 way tie.

First: @squawk7000
Second: @cjsuk
Third: @Janichsan & @AlixSPQR

Thanks @OldMacs4Me , you should have pondered over an extra cup of tea :)

some very nice and imaginative photos this time round, well done all.

context for my photo is the Leadhills narrow gauge railway in the Southern Uplands of Scotland, the highest adhesion railway in Britain. Built to transport lead ore from the various mines to a railhead for onward transport.

I will have the next challenge up later, once Il've checked the master list.
