I know this has been a subject before, but there is a lot of water about. Water exists in different states and is all around us. Water flows; comes out a tap; comes in bottles; falls out the sky; is still; is a drink; is rain; is fascinating.
Impress me with your imagination.

  • The photographs must be your own work. No AI generated images.

@AlixSPQR , just a heads-up: the rules say we shouldn’t be liking pictures until the contest wraps up. I know this is a really exciting topic, but rules are rules, right? Thanks! Hope you’re doing well.

Edit: I broke the rules, so I’m withdrawing from this contest.
@AlixSPQR PLEASE reconsider! All of us have made this mistake; it's kind of become a joke. Your entries are a great addition to the contest and I hate to see you withdraw because of something as common as this! I'm sorry if you feel you were being harshly reprimanded because it really is NOT a big deal!

Please re-enter your photo!

No, not harsh at all, the opposite, actually. Very gentle. But this thread should only be about the photos, not me. That’s why I’m withdrawing. Thank you, for your kindness. I’ll be back another time.

An interesting set of entries from talented photographers. You haven’t made it easy for me. The following is just a quick reflection, please don’t take me too seriously.

@goldmac2006 - I like this, with the fountain forming a varying sculpture of water. It’s a pity that the top of the spray is cropped out, and the coloured lights behind.

@cjsuk - what’s not to like. It’s all there; water, ice, snow, cloud. Nicely processed to retain detail in the highlights.

@AlixSPQR - I’m sorry that you withdrew your post, it was a worthy entry, which impressed me.

@iPhone-Guy - a good entry showing the power of the ocean. I can sit and look at the waves for hours. There is a slight dip in the horizon, not much, less than a degree clockwise.

@arkitect - saying ‘not entering’ is a contract written in water. Only thing I will say is: full of your trademark colours, at first glance I might have said Mediterranean rather than North Sea, until I see the tide mark.

@oblomow - ‘the lonely sea and the sky’ as John Masefield put it in his famous poem sea fever. Gosh, you have me quoting poetry. I like this one a lot.

@OldMacs4Me - snow, ice and rippling water. Another likeable image.

@mtbdudex - morning mist always gets me. Good one. I would have been tempted to edit the wee tail of dark cloud on the right.

@thirsty_monk - this reminds me of my days wild camping, pitching beside a loch and just enjoying the peace.

@C0ncreteBl0nde - subtle. I like subtle. A different entry, water is there but you have to think about it, Yeah I like that.

@kendallm - a very pleasing photo, inviting you in to sit and share a glass of wine.

Overall, all very pleasing and worthy entires which each hit the brief in their own way. Setting aside any niggles, and purely on emotion:

1st - @cjsuk

2nd - @oblomow

3rd - everyone else

Super generous to hear that and everyone deserved an equal share on the podium.

The photo was taken on an iPhone 7 years ago so I didn’t have an ultra wide lens to capture the entire height of it, but the spectacular shot in the evening sky is amazing.

FYI Bellagio fountains in vegas, the lights are underneath the geysers.

Oh wow wasn't expecting that. Thanks! Taken in Iceland back in 2023 with Nikon Z50 and the 16-50 kit lens. A somewhat emotional trip that one, in a bad way, so glad something positive cam out of it.

Amazing photos all round as always. Will proceed to come up with the next competition.
