It says a lot about the sheer conservatism of whoever categorises music that this band is referred to as “alternative”.

I guess they were a thing before my time.
I remember their time, I just don't really remember them all that well. So I identify with the puzzled bystanders in that SNL clip. I guess I was also busy listening to Hootie, lol.

They couldn't have found someone with a little more relevance? Sorry but I don't want to watch grandpas in a rock band, even if they did produce some gems. Cage the Elephant would have been better.
Cage The Elephant is really good. I saw them open for Dave Matthews Band once (yes I’m a fan, don’t judge)

Alternative has the same problem as Indie. When the terms were coined, they actually represented the genres. Alternative was an alternative to the ****** hair metal of the '80s, and indie was independent label alternatives to corporate mainstream rock. Both became mainstream genres themselves after a while.

At least it’s not Imagine Dragons.

How funny...I just saw this and I'd just picked a random Amazon Music playlist.

First on the list: Imagine Dragons -Believer.

Not my cup of tea but not terrible either.

My musical taste is already developed, and there is SO MUCH music that I haven't heard yet in my favorite genres, that I can stay in my lane and be happy.

That said, I'm a musician, from the Caribbean, an Otaku, and married to a half-white Pacific Islander, so I sample EVERYTHING and my taste is WIDE.

Apple couldn't have afforded a more high profile act? Weezer hasn't been relevant in over a decade.

For people who loved weezer back in the day, this is kinda awesome to see them again, they might not be as relevant as they were but Weezer was never like any other band. The have a LOYAL fan base, just a few years ago they did a couple of weezer cruises where the performed five nights and hung and played games with the fans and they always sold out. They still have a pretty big concert audience. I don't really feel there new stuff as I did their old stuff. A lot of people grew up loving music and now they can re-experience it.

I still love Weezer. I don't love everything they put out, and I prefer older stuff to newer stuff; I could take or leave (but mostly leave) the White album or the Black album. But the Red album was a beaut and always will be. So much good stuff on there. While I don't always dig the more recent stuff, I do dig the fact that they've been doing this for a long time and I'm willing to just let them do their thing, because I can get behind a group of friends getting together and making music, even when it's not 100% up my alley.

They've been around forever. I remember there was even a video of their song "Buddy Holly" included with Windows... 95 (?) where the band was playing at the malt shop from the TV show "Happy Days".

Yes that's the first thing I thought of when I read it. It was indeed Windows 95. The CD version obviously :) They probably thought it would be annoying having to swap floppies 10 times during the song
