Apple states that X models can vary in weight by configuration. I never noticed this language with prior models. I have a SG 256GB ATT model and my girlfriend just got a Silver 64GB ATT model. My SG 256GB is noticeably heavier. Anyone notice this? Is it the color choice or the extra storage?

Heh...it's the storage. That PVD coating's pretty thin. I wonder if it would even weigh a gram for the whole phone. :)

Yeah, but on the color, I guess I was more thinking maybe different materials, such as the sides being chrome on the Silver.

Interesting.

I had the iPhone X in silver 64gb and thought it was too heavy. Returned it and picked up an iPhone 8. After a week with the 8, I was just tired of the same old design since the iPhone 6. So today I walked into a Verizon Store and they had the space gray on display. When I picked it up, I though to myself “this thing isn’t as heavy as I remembered”.

Not sure if the display model was 64 or 256, was thinking it was all in my head though - possibly is. Just noticed the weight disclaimer on Apple’s Website after I read this thread.

Also noticed that space gray stainless steel seems grippier than the polished stainless Steel on the silver model.

I noticed it too a few weeks ago. I was in my Apple Store looking at the space gray X and noticed it wasn't as heavy as my 256gig X. I would assume they put out 64 gig configurations on display.

I actually wasn't the one to notice. My girlfriend has been evaluating my SG 256 for about a month and always thought is was heavy. I personally don't care about the weight, the form factor matters the most to me. So her Silver 64 came Friday and she immediately remarked how it didn't feel as heavy as mine. I like the guy a few posts above thought she was crazy and the difference could not be noticeable. It is. Oh well, mine is more manly:)

Nah, I don't and not that important to me. Maybe I can bring them both down to the local weed shop and have them weighed LOL!

Over in the Accessories Forum, some people report having been told by case manufacturers that the Space Grey version is sized slightly differently (smaller) than the Silver, and they are needing to adjust their case manufacturing appropriately. I don’t think that means making different cases for each color but, at a minimum, adjusting the case design so it strikes a balance to accommodate both models.

I noticed right out of the box how impressively heavy the iPhone X was compared to my 7+. I for one enjoy the extra heft - comes across as quality to me personally.

I didn’t look at Apple specs but I believe they’re very close in weight. Could just be the smaller form factor of the X seems heavier than the Plus.

The 7 Plus is heavier. I have both.
7 Plus weighs ca 188 gms
X weighs ca 174 gms

Check out the specs on any of the sites.
To me my X (silver, 64gb) is noticeably lighter than my 7 Plus (matte black, 128gb)

Similar weight but smaller package means the smaller phone will feel heavier even if the weight is the same

Bingo, my friend.

I thought I read and knew that the 7+ was heavier, but to me like I said I immediately noticed the "increased weight" of the X out of the box....exactly why you said. Not heavier, but more dense.

Yes correct. Doesn’t feel heavier at all. My 7 Plus feels heavier in my hand than my X. The X feels more dense and it is because of the glass front and rear but doesn’t feel heavier at all to me.

Aside from the glass, the weight is also contributed by the stainless steel bands and built-in wireless charging components inside the iPhone X as well.
