So I am currently located in Lower Manhattan (although the following issue happens all over NYC)...Basically I have 5 bars of 3G service but when I do a speedtest I get HUGE latency numbers and the max speed is never over 400 kbps and sometimes as low as 45kbps (47 kbps when I just tested)!! When I go to Long Island I get 1-2 bars of 3G service but latency is VERY low and and my speed bumps to about 700-900 kbps. This makes no sense to me. Can anyone explain??

The other issue is that 3G will just go off randomly and even if I restart the phone it won't reconnect in areas where I sometimes have perfect 3G coverage. Is it possible that at&t is doing work and the 3G network goes down once in a while? Why else would it drop the connection altogether for extended period of times?

Tall buildings don't go well with 3G signal's, or so they say. We don't have tall building where I live. :)

That's weird. I remember someone once telling me that 3G (UMTS/HSPA) signal penetrate buildings much better than GSM signals. Is this not true?
