OK, so, see this thread here: iPhone 13 Pro weight (page 3). This morning I embarked on an experiment to see how I would do with the much heavier iPhone 13 Pro compared to my current 2020 SE.

So there is this thing that has been happening with the SE ever since I got it (and since I'm an old man with poor memory, I don't remember if it was happening with my SE 2016, but I think it did). I text two-handed (see previous mention of my age), holding the phone in my left and tapping with my right. When I am texting in my car (only when parked, NEVER EVER EVER while driving), I will tap out my text, then transfer the phone from my left to my right hand and place it in a slot in the center console.

What happens, every so often, is this: as I am placing the phone in that location, a voice recording message starts! If you're not familiar, go into Messages, and tap the icon in the right edge of the text entry field, with no text entered (where the "Send Text" button normally is). That will start a voice recording, that you can then send. Fortunately, it doesn't send automatically, I can delete the recording before it goes. But I'm not tapping the button, it is spontaneously activating as I place it on the center console.

I don't think this is a bug, per se...I just think there is something about the physical dynamics of this action that is simulating a tap of that button. Something very specific about the exact way I do it. Maybe the end of one of the fingers on my left hand is sliding over it as I transfer hands, perhaps? It doesn't happen all the time.

That is, it DIDN'T happen all the time. As you'll see in the linked thread above, this morning I taped a coin to the back of my phone case to simulate the heavier weight of the iPhone 13 Pro. I just went on an errand. I texted with my partner when I was parked. AND EVERY SINGLE TIME I PLACED THE PHONE BACK, IT STARTED RECORDING. EVERY SINGLE TIME! Since I assume that this thing had something to do with the specific physical dynamics of the action, I have to assume that the added weight has only enhanced whatever that physical dynamic is.

It doesn't happen any other place. Perhaps it's because I tend to grip the phone around the top half during the transfer (the better to drop the bottom edge into the slot). Perhaps it's because I'm returning the phone to a standing orientation instead of flat on a surface like my desk. If I try to mimic this action anywhere else, it doesn't happen. Perhaps it has to do with whatever EMF from the electronics in the dashboard?Whatever the reason, it's WEIRD!

Yeah there isn’t a setting to turn that off, but since you’ve narrowed down the problem to a very specific circumstance - it’s easy to prevent it in the future.
