for a few weeks now, on webpages I see these things ALL OVER THE PLACE?! What are they and how do I rid myself of them?
I'm running a mbp:
Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro4,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.5 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 6 MB
Memory: 4 GB
Bus Speed: 800 MHz
Boot ROM Version: MBP41.00C1.B03
SMC Version: 1.27f1

and I use Firefox/3.0.9

I've seen similar things on web pages with different language fonts. Try going into View -> Character Encoding and see if changing that helps.

It also could be that you removed some fonts needed to show the web page properly. What website are you visiting there and have you removed any of your fonts?

Tried everything in the character encoding, doesn't do anything. Been visiting tonnes of websites and it comes up on most of them. I haven't removed any fonts, no.
 
Post the link of such websites. I'd also like to test it on my Penryn 2.5 Ghz... Been also experiencing such font display problems at times.

google reader, livejournal, facebook, doesn't seem to do it in safari
 
I don't know. I guess it works for me. But on Wikipedia it won't display some of the languages...

I even get a few on the macrumors front page.
It does not show the apostrophe on the front page and instead shows a strange box with 00 92 in it.

It seems that it was some kind of italics one on the front page as this one shows up now.
