    Hey,

So I got my dad's old iphone, with the task to get it repaired and sell it, which is gonna be quite difficult... But anyway, do you guys have any idea what caused this damage? I tried to google but I can't figure out what this is or how it could've happened. If I press the screen hard I get weird purple spots, do you think the phone has developed a slight addiction to lsd?

    Thank you in advance

Looks like potentially pressure damage from both sides. Do you notice if the screen seems raised or not? I ask because I had a 5 and he battery was expanding behind it, pushing the glass upward, and when I pressed down from the left side of screen, I get a rainbow distortion effect.

Safe to rule out LSD addiction ;)

Haha thought so. And yes, the screen is slightly raised and I can push it back a bit but I don't to that, I'm too afraid it's gonna explode or something. Sounds like this phone has the same problem as your 5. Is this something that can be fixed? An expanding battery sounds pretty awful.

I think it is fine to replace battery, and probably the screen since it appears this is long-term damage, if you're daring enough to do a DIY repair. However, if possible, I'd go through Apple first and see what they can do for you. The Genius bar let me swap the phone for one of the refurbished replacements for the price of a battery replacement ($79 plus tax I believe), but other people have had luck of getting a replacement at no charge. Doesn't hurt to see what they can do for you.
