This is a Touch but the grid can be seen in bright light.

that's the digitizer that reads where your fingers are.

Correct. I've actually taken an iPhone apart before to replace the LCD and when you look at the digitizer piece by itself (it's laminated to the front glass) it looks like a clear piece of glass with faint gridlines on it. Then tiny wires connect to the gridlines at the edges and go to a ribbon cable that connects to the iPhone main board. Very cool actually.
 
Happens on my iPhone and iPad. As the posters above said, I think it's part of the digitizer
