Weird issue on iPhone X

I have an Apple Watch and when I put my phone off mute and in my pocket idle it doesn’t ping or vibrate but my watch does. If I’m using my phone it will bing like normal but not when idle. Is this a known issue?

You get notifications on your watch when you are not activily using your phone.

Ah ok. So when using the watch it just uses the watch instead of the phone. Cool just checking
