Serioiusly, what is that? It's not Spaces, but it looks similar. And is Spotlight going to be an application like Exopse is now?

Hmmmm strange..... I think you are right, spotlight will be an app! (Do not know if I am happy with that...) as for the other I have no idea... maybe one of the TOP SECRET?

Whoa. That is definitely not the Spaces icon.

And the Spotlight icon in the finder explains why in some images of Leopard presented during the keynote the icon was not present in the top right corner.

It seems to me like they have turned Spotlight into an App that works similarly to Dashboard. It's not really an app, but it is in the Dock, and OS X treats it like one. I think Spotlight has been reworked to behave similarly.

Is it just me or do the leopard previews on the apple site seem more Tiger than the preview shown at the keynote? It seems like they have been working more on Leopard since they created the online previews.

In addition, can anyone vouch that the Spotlight icon does not appear in the top right corner of the keynote preview?

It does, in fact, appear.

Thanks. The image I saw of it not in the upper right was when that platform experience guy was up and iPhoto froze.

Yeah...the Spotlight icon was up there in the corner until the instant when iPhoto froze. Then it disappeared.

I think this screenshot is the REAL Leopard.

New clean white theme.

What is this icon? Doesn't the date and user name in the top right conner look longer than normal?

You all noticed the mystery icon in the dock. Also the Hard drive icon is gone. It is possible to get ride of the hard drive icon, but Apple usually has it on the desktop.

I'm thinking that MAYBE the mystery icon is Spaces. Maybe we can have more than 4 desktops, and a new icon is made in the dock when you have 5 or more.

As for the menu bar icon... is it Time Machine's progress meter? I dunno, kinda looks like the analog clock, but the digital clock is already there.

Where did you come across these images?

Additionally, is there a higher resolution version that can better emphasize some of the points that you are discussing?

If you will recall, there were some differences between Tiger on Apple's site and the Tiger developer preview. A lot of this stuff is still being changed, so don't expect it to look the same in every version.

Um, have you guys got the microscopes out?

I can't make out anything in those images - even the dock icons are tiny.

Anyone got any bigger images?

they must have... anyway the images are from the ichat movie on apples leopard preview site. My guess is that the laptops runing either an older or newer build then the imac. probably a new app but with that image i wouldn't get to heated about it.

You can clearly see in Unorthodox's post directly above yours that the spaces icon is in the dock as well as the mystery icon. It goes: Finder - Time Machine - Spaces - Dashboard - Spotlight - Mystery Icon - etc.

I just checked out the Leopard Sneak Peak at Apple's website, and I think the icon in the menu bar has something to do with the screen sharing. It appears when they start the screen share, and opens up to scroll some text across. (If you don't know what I mean, and I hardly know what I mean, then check it out-- http://www.apple.com/macosx/leopard/ichat.html)

I still can't figure out what the dock icon is though...

Could the mystery icon be the Dashboard widget maker that Steve was talking about? Not the one that you can make instantly with websites, but the one for developers? It sorta looks like a few widgets in the icon.

That is my guess.

Dashcode? No, that's a different icon.
