iPad Weird Marks on Smart Cover

Has anyone seen or heard of Smart Cover showing marks on inside and outside of cover? I have 2 covers with 18 rectangles and a circle in middle of edge of folding cover with magnets. It looks like a key pad. Just curious I figure it must be what puts iPad to sleep when closed.


Any idea's?????
