weird 'open with' crash

Hi all

I have a problem with my mac freezing when using 'open with'. Seems to be image and psd files mostly. It takes a second to open the 'open with' menu then doesn't do anything when you select an application. It also kills the apple menu (top left) and renders all open apps inactive (can't get back into them even though they're running) and the option-tab scroll through open apps no longer works.

Anyone seen this before? Any clues?

Hi, I would just do a archive and install just to be safe. I have never heard of this problem before but I assume that if you re-installed the OS the problem will go away.

What Mac OS X are you using?
