Weird Partition "Glitch"

Hey all,

I am sorry for posting a question that has been answered a multitude of times, however I feel my situation is a little bit different.

I will explain what I did in a step by step basis:

1. Wanted Linux since I am a big user of it.

2. Installed rEFit, works flawlessly

3. Tried to Partition:
- Seemed to have worked, partitioned the Macintosh HD and gave 100 GB to Linux
- However, I CAN'T see the partition!

I know it is there, the 750 GB Mac HD is using 650 GB now, but other than that, the 2nd partition is nowhere to be found. It completed successfully, but it is just not there. I would be fine to delete it and re-install it, however to delete it I need to see it!

Any guidance would be appreciated.

So while in OS X you can't see that 100GB partition at all in Disk Utility?

Try running the command "diskutil list" (without the quotes) in Temrinal from OS X and post up the output here.

Once I get home from work I will paste it immediately. To paint a visual picture, the white rectangle that represents the Macintosh HD is there. But part of it is grayed out as well, the part which was supposedly partitioned. I will post a picture of it when I have access after work.

So here is what I see:

That looks normal as far as the OS X side of things. So you shrunk the Macintosh HD partition by 100GB then did you add a 100GB partition at the end after that, and if so what format did you make it (because I don't see it there)?

It looks like you freed up the 100GB but it is not formatted? You should now be able to format it to EXT3 using the Linux installer.

I had the same problem, my computer crashed while shrinking the main partition. diskutil list in terminal doesn't show it and no free space appears in Disk Utility.
