What appears if you hover over it?

It seems there was something there that is now removed from your system.
Something another application put in there, but which has been deleted.

Select View > Customize Toolbar and drag it off. Or hold the Command key and drag it off.

You can remove it with View > Customize Toolbar

Even easier, just command-drag it off your tool bar.

ye i removed it twice but every time i restart its back! Its very weird... I click on it and EVEN MORE WEIRDLY it pops up a prompt that, "Apples Keynote.... something something" its referring to a video i downloaded a few days ago of Apple keynote speech, which is not deleted! Very weird... But its gone now, ill see if its popped back up when i restart...

Check your Login items. They are in System Preferences->Accounts. Something might be in there that trys to load on startup.
