weird symbol next to battery symbol

a weird symbol appeared next to battery symbol and the tilt is not available when browsing or reading mail. it looks like it's locked. any idea how to unlock it?

Hit the home button twice to bring up the multi-tasking bar. Swipe to the right once so you see the ipod menu and press the icon all the way to the left. It is the screen orientation lock.

Hi,

That just means you cant rotate the screen. To get rid of that, when you're on the springboard, double click the home button to bring up the "multitasking scroll bar" at the bottom and scroll all the way tot he left. It is the last icon on the left. Click that and then the symbol at the top will disappear and you'll be able to rotate.
