Hey guys, had a quick search through the forum but cant find anything about this one.

Its happened a couple of times now and the only way i can solve it is by restarting the computer, Im trying to find out if theres an easier way of solving it or if its a gesture im making on the trackad which is causing it - heres the problem!!! ----

Basically when im using the trackpad, say browing on safai, all of a sudden the pointer on the screen starts sticking to anything it touches, this could be someting on the screen ,a window or a file on the desktop anything it goes over it selects and sticks to the pointer, and i cannnot get it off.
Ive tried turning off double tap to select etc in the options so I know its not that , sometimes if i right click it drops the item but then anything else it passes it selects again.
Its geting very annoying ive lost files and if i go near the dock it drags all my programmes off.

also on my blank desktop space its constantly making a square as if your selecting something.
This problem seems to occur after if either pressed or held down the trackpad and then maybe scrolled, so im wandering if there is a gesture i dont know about that im accidently activating, if so how the hell can i stop this happing its driving me mad, its happened about 3 times this week.

I do a lot of editing and im dreading it happeneing whilst im in the middle of an important edit .

please please can some one help, so far ive found the only way to solve it is to shut down the laptop.

I've had the same thing happening to me on both my MBP and my iMac (with magic trackpad). It just started within the last week or so and has happened a handful of times on each machine.

OP, do you do any kind of gaming in OS X?

    Same

I've had this issue on my 2010 13" MBP 10.6.4 for several weeks now.

    Only cured by restart.

I'm all ears if anyone has a notion, but it smells like a hardware problem to me.

    track pad pointer issues

I also have this issue with my track pad. It arbitrarily sticks and selects stuff and will not release. Sometimes responds to a double click and then not. Any help/advice welcome.

This issue was fixed in the Apple trackpad update that occurred a month or so ago, have you updated your mac?
