weird unlock behavior on iphone x

Recently I've noticed that sometimes when I unlock the phone, the phone will be in the "Phone" application instead of at the home screen. I verified that I was not in the phone screen prior to the phone locking. I am not sure why phone opens the "Phone" application when I unlock the phone. I have tried a reboot of the phone and that solves the issue for a bit but it seems to come back. Anybody else see similar behavior? It ONLY goes to the "Phone" application, nothing else. I am on an iPhone X using the latest version of iOS 11
