Since yesterday I have been trying to fix my slow wifi speeds.

Usually this isn't a big deal to fix since I just need to power cycle the router however this time it is just odd.

On other devices the speeds are fine besides my MacBook Pro.

I have a 2018 MacBook Pro. I thought maybe something is wrong with the wifi card, but I have a second account on it and logged in and the speeds are fine on that account.

I have been using Speedtest desktop version for testing.

I reset the network setting, removed the wifi interface completely, reset the pam, and reset the smc and nothing seems to work.

I tested with an ethernet cable thinking maybe the network connection is just hosed, but that was fine.

After messing with it all morning and afternoon yesterday the speeds finally went back to normal, but starting about 1 am it started to show the slow speeds again.

Any idea?

What Wi-Fi are you connecting too? Is b, g, n or ac? When you reset you need to turn off Wi-Fi and go to your Network System Preferences page and at the top of the pane is ‘Location’ and use the pull down to setup your custom named network for your Home! Then turn Wi-Fi back on and rejoin your network or get another wireless router that is more current!

The physical mode is 802.11ac, its 5GZ 80 MHZ.

When I deleted it I always kept the location as automatic and never changed it. Also I turned off the wifi when I deleted it and restarted. I did that also when I deleted the preference files.

Have you run WiFi diagnostics? (Option click Wifi button on finder menu bar, open wireless diagnostics, window/scan?

I did run it, but it found nothing wrong.

The weird thing is I created a new account on the same computer with everything logged in the same and the speeds are better.

Something in your account is mucking up the works. But you probably already know that ... ;)
You might try getting rid of all previous wifi/network settings (in your main, "problem" account) and start over.
Hmmmm... I'd take a little time and check & take notes on the settings in your new account, then compare them to the old one to see if there's anything that's different.

The on main account make that new Location in Network settings, IMHO the Automate Location gets abused by plugins over time!

I tried the new location and kept the other working account as automatic and still no difference. ATT confirmed they did something on their end, but still no change.

I know it is something with this account, but I wish I knew what it was so I could fix it.

I probably end up just doing a clean wipe and starting over in the end.

If you think of anything else to try or check let me know.

Thanks for all the help.

Then you should really consider getting your own Wireless router! This way they can’t just “do something’ to Your home network!

Quick question - Are you using the Unlock with Apple Watch function? I was having similar issues and found some info that suggested Disabling Unlock with Apple Watch. That did the trick. With it enabled, my WiFi would drop 50% in performance as the day progressed. With it disabled, it has stayed stable and at the speeds seen by my other devices.
