Somewhere over the rainbow
Please join us in welcoming two moderators to our ranks! The new volunteers, who are experienced members of our community, will assist users, enforce forum rules, and help us set site policies.

Our new moderators:

Many of you will remember that @Weaselboy was a moderator from December 2014 to June 2015. He's been a forum member since December 2005, is retired, and lives in California.

@Phil A. is originally from Yorkshire and now lives in Shropshire. He's been a member since April 2006, is a keen runner, a big soccer fan, and a dog lover.

He loves new technology and is a long time Apple user, all the way back to Apple ][. His first Mac purchase was a Ruby iMac G3. He owns a (small) company that develops custom enterprise level software.

Welcome! :)

The goal of the administrators and moderators is to keep the forums enjoyable and useful for both forum members and site visitors. Enforcement of the rules is based on twin goals of consistency and fairness.

We're very happy that these outstanding forum members, whose helpfulness over the years you may already have noticed, agreed to (re)join our moderation team and continue their service to other users in an official role. We are grateful to all of our moderators for their assistance to the site and for accepting so much responsibility on your behalf.

The selection process

The selection of moderators is a slow, careful process. We start with recommendations from the current moderators, looking for users with the right personality and instincts: helpful, friendly, rational, fair, those whose participation has consistently been a benefit to their fellow forum members. These we choose excel in many ways and are well-suited for the role we ask them to take as moderators.

Big belated congrats to @Weaselboy; to those who have seen his posts around, he's a really courteous, helpful member for tech issues/troubleshooting and knows pretty much everything there is to know. If you're having problems with your Mac and should trust anybody's judgement here, it's definitely his.

They're both awesome.

To the question of how many days it takes to regret the commitment, I can answer that we've had at least three return to the fold after taking breaks. So either it's a great gig or they have very short memories. :p
