Somewhere over the rainbow
Please join me in welcoming a new moderator to our ranks! The new volunteer, who is an experienced member of our community, will assist users, enforce forum rules, and help us set site policies.

Our new moderator Agent-P has been a member since December 6, 2009, and lives in Colorado.

The goal of the administrators and moderators is to keep the forums enjoyable and useful for both forum members and site visitors. Enforcement of the rules is based on twin goals of consistency and fairness.

In this particular case, a new moderator joining now has to deal with a more complex situation than previous new mods have had. We've just switched to XenForo; despite the test period, both staff and members are still in the process of getting to know the new platform, and figuring out how things work. For that reason, Agent-P will be learning the new ropes gradually. But you'll be seeing more and more of him in his new role!

We're glad that this outstanding forum member, whose helpfulness over the years you may already have noticed, agreed to join our moderation team and continue his service to other users in an official role. We are grateful to all of our moderators for their assistance to the site and for accepting so much responsibility on your behalf.

Welcome, Agent-P! :)

The selection process

The selection of moderators is a slow, careful process. We start with recommendations from the current moderators, looking for users with the right personality and instincts: helpful, friendly, rational, fair, those whose participation has consistently been a benefit to their fellow forum members. These we choose excel in many ways and are well-suited for the role we ask them to take as moderators.

Especially with the new subforums.

@Agent-P: Good that MR has now a new moderator. It is certainly a very difficult job, sometimes.

The very best of luck with your new position and well done, Agent-P; I'm sure you'll make an excellent Moderator.

Given the massive numbers who are members, - spanning a wide range of views, opinions, ages, regions, levels of tech expertise, along with the need to strike a balance between allowing discussion to flow yet keeping the tone and content civil, overall, the Mods on MR tend to do a very good job - one which is not always a cakewalk.

Thanks for the kind words! Though speaking of cakewalks, I could go for some cake right now.

They're volunteers, so no.

I get volunteering for charity, helping at your child's school etc., but why would anyone give-up their own free time to help a profit-making website moderating the comments made by a bunch of random people you'll never meet?

The mind boggles.

In all seriousness we like to help out and be a part of a group that tries to keep this site operating smoothly. :)
