VERY DISAPPOINTED about the 2GB of ram in the pro! Im going to save my money and get the Air 2 128GB
Ahhhh, us pro users can't stop you, but I can't help myself from one last ditch effort to convince you!

The air 2 is a great product but you are limiting yourself in that all of the new accessories are all going to be focused on the pro, including the keyboard. In addition the 5mp FaceTime camera alone is worth a lot to most people. The true tone display will make reading easier. (I'm super jealous I don't have these in my full size pro) The speakers are incredibly good, seriously go to a store and try it out first. Even hey Siri will be super useful. Lastly think about the resale value, the pro is almost 2 years newer. You could recoups the extra cost easily if you ever decide to sell.

Finally, i hope you enjoy whichever one you get! Sorry for being a nuisance I couldn't help myself!

You really think a better FaceTime is worth all that? Not to mention you'd need a pro 9.7 on the other end to get the real benefit.

You're just being silly with this...

What is the actual difference between the "True Tone" display and regular Night Mode other than that the iPP Mini automates the process based on the ambient light?

I would do the same. The Air 2 is the iPad that will suit you the best.

Pretty much all of those points are irrelevant. The Air 2 just had an insane price drop, it's currently selling at the same price as the Mini 4. Right now it's a bargain.

Who cares about a better FaceTime camera and slightly better speakers? I had an Air 2 since the day it launched and the speakers were good enough to easily fill a room!

They may be irrelevant to you, but what's the harm in seeing another perspective? And I have to say, as the owner of both an iPP and an iPA2, the difference in speaker quality could hardly be described as "slight". The iPP's speakers are significantly better, to the point that it could be a big discriminator to someone who wants something louder/clearer.

You realise the speakers on the 9.7' iPad Pro are almost half the size as the ones on the 12.9' Pro?

In my family we have both iPads. The Air 2's speakers are perfectly fine for the huge majority.

And yes, the features he mentioned are irrelevant. Unless you really love making FaceTime calls.

I think a lot of people are undervaluing the keyboard and the speakers.
Then you are clearly forgetting the fact that iPads come with bluetooth. This and the lightning connector have been the way to use accessories and there are many of them. One of those accessories are bluetooth keyboards like the one Apple makes. Logitech and others have been making cases with integrated keyboards as well at cheaper prices then the iPad Pro keyboard. So no, people are not undervaluing the keyboard, you are overvaluing it.

The speakers are a completely different story. No more mono sound when holding it in landscape mode, hurray!

The air 2 is a great product but you are limiting yourself in that all of the new accessories are all going to be focused on the pro, including the keyboard.
I don't think so because that would limit the amount of devices you can use that particular accessory on. Bluetooth is far more universal and is used on all iPhones and iPads as well as smartphones and tablets from other manufacturers. The iPad Pro 9.7" also has the exact same dimensions as the Air 2 with the camera bulge as the only exception (as far as it can even be seen as such, it may not even be an issue with the cutout in most cases).

The only difference is the smart connector for which we currently have only 1 accessory: the Apple keyboard for the iPad Pro (be it the small or the large version). If Apple goes down the same road as Microsoft did then we won't we seeing any other accessory for that port.

There are 3 reasons to go for the iPad Pro: Pencil support, the speaker setup and the 256GB option. Everything else is either the same as the Air 2 or very (too?) similar. Seems like the Air 2 was way ahead of its time.

As for the main question here: it's basically a choice between storage capacity vs being able to use the Pencil and having proper speakers.

What is the actual difference between the "True Tone" display and regular Night Mode other than that the iPP Mini automates the process based on the ambient light?
They are two different things. Nightshift is for reducing blue light at night in order to aid your brain to go into "sleep mode" (it is making a specific chemical to do this, blue light prevents the process from making that chemical) which should help you sleep better (you go to sleep earlier and easier). This has got nothing to do with ambient light but everything to do with time (time to go to sleep, time to get up).

True Tone solves a different problem. Paper or any object that isn't backlit will emit the light that is falling on it (in photography we call this reflective lighting). If the light is red then a white sheet of paper will be coloured red, if it is yellow then you'll notice the paper is yellow, etc. Any backlit object will not reflect the light because it emits light itself. In that case you are seeing the emitted light, not the ambient light. This isn't very natural. True Tone solves this by looking at the colour of the ambient light and match the emitted light to what it measured. Thus it mimics non-backlit objects behaviour: when you shine a red light onto it, the display will colour itself red, etc. It is another way of making a digital device (=iPad) look and behave the same way as the analog version (=paper). Secondly it will also match the brightness of the light to the surroundings but that's something previous iPads can do too.

If you want to compare it to something: it's like Philips' Ambilight.

That seems like a very good call indeed. No point buying an old thing, particularly if you plan on getting a pencil later. The iPp is worth it just for the pencil IMO, before you get to things like the speakers and truetone, etc!

If you do get any buyers remorse remember you'll grow into it and it has more potential by spending more..

I jumped from the iPad 3 to 9.7" iPp and my initial thoughts on setting it up were.. "Well.. It's another iPad?" - but the speed and possibilities are so great. Enjoy it! :D

Looks like I got my answer...............Im going to get the 128GB iPad pro for $749 can believe im doing this

Yea so far its a very big difference from the 3rd gen ipad I had.

You made the right choice. Don't listen to others who say you have wasted your money and should have got an iPad Air 2 or something else. I have come from and still have my iPad Air 2 but I haven't looked back since I bought my iPad Pro. Even compared to the iPad Air 2 it's a significant improvement.

I'm also working on this decision, upgrading from an original 16gb Mini I've had 3 1/2 years now. You keep that Pro long-term and I think you'll find a year or two down the road that there are more pro-level apps -- plus significant upgrades from existing apps -- that take advantage of that A9X CPU and you'll be glad you got the iPP. That's the direction I'm leaning in anyway. The A9X is a really powerful chip, Apple has been talking about how these new "pro" level iPads are going to replace a laptop. They know they need killer apps designed for this platform to make that vision come true. I gotta believe they're working on something, either in-house or with a 3rd party developer, perhaps Adobe?

For 30 years the software industry has been in a kind of arms race with hardware. Both of these iPP models have raised the stakes on the hardware side, it's a pretty safe bet that someone on the software side is going to produce something to match it. Personally I'd like to see a port of Logic Pro to iOS but I'm sure others would like to see the Adobe Creative Suite or maybe Final Cut Pro. Of course it doesn't get any more "vapor-ware" than this theory but hey it's fun to think about. :) Enjoy your new iPad!
