Edit: Sorry should read "Will IM count as text?"

Im switching over to ATT with my wife for the iphone 3g. I was talking to my current verizon customer support and was told that IM counts as texting on your bill.
Is this just the case for verizon or does that apply to ATT as well?
    Thanks

Seeing that any IM program that's coming out (at launch at least) will be 3rd party, it should just be data.

No, IM will not count towards your SMS texts.

First of all, iPod touch users will be able to use AOL instant messenger.

Second of all, SMS uses a special data frequency on the cellular network. IMs will be sent over the standard data frequency included in your unlimited data plan.

    Hope this helps

Thanks for the replies! So does verizon charge because the IM they offer isn't 3rd party?

BINGO... On a lot of their handsets they likely have their own brand of IM that they control.

Also, the SDK prohibits access to the SMS feature.
