So for most of this year i've lived with a friend of mine, who is actually just round the corner from my house now.

I moved out about 3 months ago or so, most of my letters etc were diverted to my new address, but as always theres a few that get missed out.

My housemate knocked on the door today and handed me a letter.

"Sorry mate, forgot about this, was lying on the floor of my van and I totally forgot".

Turns out HM Revenue & Customs sent me a cheque (Tax rebate!) for £600 and it has been sitting in my friends van for 2 months.

So yay, an extra £600 that I didnt expect for Christmas.

:D

Sweet deal- that from when they messed up with the calculations a while back? Gotta love those readjustments!

Apparently so, back in the 2008-2009 tax year. Didn't even think I was due one, so never gave it a second thought. Gotta love friends forgetting to bring round £600 worth of cheque though! lol

Well, at least this friend didn't open it and then try to forge your signature!

lol he did open it, it's ok though we're good friends, the Cheque is printed, and can be cashed by the person its printed out to only... so not much use to him to be fair

now... what do I spent it on? :D

That never happens here...usually it works the other way around. The IRS shows up, knocks on your door, and tells you that you owe them 600 dollars. Luckily, they will let you make easy payments of 100 dollars a month for the rest of your life paying on a compounding 10% interest by the minute.

Nice! I got one of those letters last month, I got just over £800 back from overpaid taxes, it was great, meant I could afford to upgrade my DSLR, 2 Seagate Momentus 320GB XT hard drives, 6GB RAM and various other camera accessories. Very happy.

We had something like that here, back when I was working.

They called it General Averaging, I think, and they took ~5 years, and lumped them together somehow.

It helps take the bite out of a big jump in salary.

Oh god im almost embaressed to post this :D

I was tidying up the house as I had some guests visiting, and i ripped the letter (and cheque) in half by accident. Apparently they do accept them if you tape them up properly, and its all legible.

When the banks re-open in the next day or so i'll try cash it. What a facepalm moment. lmao

:eek::D

Nice!

RAM Upgrade and new TV for me I think. :D

Well done! I got one in the post a week before Christmas. I used it to buy my Beats By Dre headphones :D

Nice! I once found $200 in a cupboard in my flat. I must have put it there and then completely forgotten about it:)
