Having had apple watches since 2015 and numerous bands, I swopped my band out tonight for a chlorine blue/green Nike band that I have had since April so a current product.. I slid the short part of the band onto my watch and it slipped straight through the watch without connecting and I heard a tinkle on the floor only to see that the metal magnetic plug had detached itself from the band. Never had this happen before with any Apple Watch bands. Bearing in mind that it’s less than five months old, I shall be putting a call into Apple tomorrow for a replacement. I thought the Apple Watch bands were bullet-proof

Any chance it could be a counterfeit, or did you buy it directly from Apple?

have you used said band before? and if so, did it get on/off ok if you remember?
but any product can fail ... Apple products are not exempt from that, but I'm sure you knew that ...

Yeah I’ve worn it several times before and it came on and off without any problems. As I said I slipped it on tonight and the middle lug just detached itself from the band. I shall speak to Apple tomorrow and see what they say. It’s less than five months old so hopefully they will do an exchange

I have one of those “limited edition” woven nylon band bought from Apple. After 3 years, it still holds strong surprisingly well, just that I need to cut a cable tie as a substitute to original loop. That metal part does not fall off.

Guess it’s just a bit of luck. Hopefully Apple will replace that band for you. For me, the only way forward is buying those cheap third party bands since Apple no longer sells woven nylon bands, my only favorite. :(

I thought that the entire end was a metal covered bit. Interesting that the nib popped off. I have secretly, or not, been concerned that it would happen while I was wearing mine. Yikes...

Hope Apple makes you whole.

Yeah it is just the magnetic strip that sticks to the metal lug that has come away. I think the glue has failed. Anyway Apple looking into it and want me to ship it back to them for further analysis
