I don't know.... If I were to guess? Apple is thinking,well... "If you want the more unique colors, get our newest model". Smart actually...... Their thinking is...if you want it bad enough, you'll pay for it"

Its not like the gold color costs more to make than the other two colors.

As the poster above me said, it isn't the same as the 6S, and more importantly, it is an issue of managing stock of a bunch of different colors and sizes, and of course wanting people to get the new one. Buy used if you want Gold.

It isn't, but if they can get people to fork over an extra $100 for the latest model in gold, then they're going to do it. Or at least give it a shot and see how sales are.

Well they are different materials.

This is how pretty much all products, of any industry, roll though. You want the fancier colors? Buy the new one then.

It's cheaper for Apple to make 4 different iPhone 6/6+ color/size variants than it is to make 9.

Will they be missing out on a lot of sales in only having 4 variants as opposed to 9?

I'm sure the bean counters factored that in. The folks that wanted a 128GB or Gold model will either settle for 64GB or silver/space gray, or they'll upgrade to the latest and greatest.

Doubtful. Anyone who has their hearts set on Gold or 128GB will buy a 6s. Anyone who doesn't care about the latest processor probably doesn't care much about color or maximum storage either.

Not likely. People who buy last year's models do so because they are price conscious. They are less likely to care about what color their phone is.

If you really want the 6/6+ Gold, your best bet would be to check with your carrier (in-store and online). They MIGHT have it in stock still. Though you might be out of luck given today is the launch of the new models.
