I'm looking forward to it. I went through a pros and cons list and it really just favored apple on all the pain points I was having with android over the years. I'm going to miss my widgets but the pros of iMessage with all my family, face timing with my wife so I can talk to/see my kids, better battery life, faster updates, longevity of the life of the phone.

The store I ordered at tonight was out of stock of 11 Pro Max in 64GB so I have to wait about a week or so to get it shipped but I'm excited to get back into it.

what was the android you came from ?

Current android is Pixel 3XL

What were some of the pros/cons that you decided on?

Cons:
Lack of choices like default apps (might be coming to iOS)
No more widgets
No home screen configuration except a grid

Pros:
Better battery life for longer
Apps priority updates (developers favor iOS)
No slow roll out updates
iMessage perks (basically everyone I know has an iPhone)
FaceTime
Google ecosystem is much more accessible on iOS now than when I left 8 years ago

All great points. And not just ‘faster’ updates, but more frequent iOS updates in terms of correcting issues on a more regular basis.

FaceTime/iMessage is great, I don’t know if that’s a ‘dealbreaker’ for me to stay loyal to Apple, but I see it as the security _and_ longevity of updates is what consumers choose to retain their phones longer, because they run streamlined usually without any major issues.

I’m gonna be right there with you when the new iPhones come out in September - holding off until then as I need to save money for it and it makes more sense for me to wait until the new ones are released. I’ve been with Android since 2013 so it’s time for a change!

Also don’t forget ‘Find My’.

You can keep track on your kids if they’re young still.

Also it’s great for when the wife leaves work and you’re at home waiting to start dinner or vice versa. You can keep track of when they leave that destination or where they might be to you on thier way home.

Apple sharing with Apple Music and Apple TV+, books etc is a nice perk too.

Tracking kids, what a great use of the Apple tiles.

Tracking your own kids for parents silly. They have allow permission to accept you following them on their phone.

There are other apps that do it too if your all using same app. It’s why his moving over to Apple now makes it even easier for him and his family.

I’d rather stick a 30 dollar puck in my 6 year olds backpack or pocket then give them a thousand dollar phone.

I'd rather have better tracking about my child's whereabouts and just limit the phone's capabilities than put a 30 dollar puck in their backpack. I also don't understand this idea that people think they need to spend 1000 bucks on an iPhone for their child. You can get a used one for 100 bucks or so on Swappa.com.

i remember when i was a kid, i didn’t have a cell phone. my parents never worried about where i was, as long as i got back to the house before dark. this new generation of parents is appalling, giving their 6 year old a cell phone, tracking their kids lol.. where’s the good ol leash you see parents using these days haha.

You'll still have widgets, just not as flexible.

True i just meant nothing on my home screen of apps. I usually had countdowns, some task apps for bills, calendar, etc.

Yah that will be nice. If i'm ever running an errand or something i get a lot of "where are you?" texts if i've been out for a bit, usually when i'm like 2 minutes from home. She can just look on the map! HA!.... we all know she wont though.

Yah kids aren't even old enough to have phones yet (almost 5 and 3)

Something as i was talking with people this weekend I also remembered another pro was the service that is available if something is wrong. Androids don't have any brick and mortar stores i can go to. I have 2 local apple stores i can get to if i need to get someone to look at my phone.

Also native screen recording could be very helpful since I'll now be the resident "Apple" guy to my wife's family as I'm by far the most tech savy

I agree, but the technology we have now was not available when I was a kid. So why not use it.

With the 24 hour news cycles reporting all the bad crap going on (and I am sure bad crap went on when we were kids, its just that it was not reported so much), I like to know where my kids are. I am not going to go out and buy a brand new phone for my kids, they can get older ones that still function and are locked down. They can call, text, play games all they want, but they cannot disable Find My iPhone. More of a peace of mind type of thing for me.

Well, the bigger issue is not the parents as much as the neighbors calling child protective services for letting the kids go to the park and such without an adult around despite the park being in your neighborhood without crossing major roads.

With tech we can track the kids to be sure they are on there way home immediately from school so we ourselves do not get in trouble, lol.

Good for you. I was almost kidnapped several times as a kid (in the 80s and 90s) and didn’t have a cell phone either, so when they first became available, my parents bought me one of those Nokia phones so they wouldn’t have to worry about where I was and I wouldn’t have to be paranoid anymore because I could always get a hold of them. My parents trusted me as well, but trust is irrelevant if someone takes off with your kid. I’m glad you had a rainbowy childhood, but there are many reasons to give a child a cell phone.

you were almost kidnapped? talked to strangers, accepted candy from white vans? where did you grow up? DM me your story, i’d love to hear it.

I appreciate your sarcastic and idiotic reply void of any empathy, but no ... nothing stupid like that happened. Strangers have grabbed me and tried stuffing me into their cars and other things I wish not to share here. I’m grateful I was either was able to get away or someone was near that helped or I don’t know what would’ve happened. I grew up in Southern California.
