I just went from my old imac to a new one and I have a wd external harddrive dual-option backup USB2.0

model-1600b015

And it doesn't load. I dont have the original software disc for it. Does anyone know how i can get my external to load thanks.

When you plug it in and turn it on, go to Disk Utility (Applications/Utilities) and see if it shows up there. It will show on the left hand column of that window. It will probably even have the model # on it.

It shouldn't require any software to work with Mac OS X. Did you try a different USB port? Try turning it on, unplugging it while its still on and then plugging it back in.

Also, while its plugged in, go to the Apple Menu, then click on About This Mac, and then click on More Info. Under the USB section, does it say anything about an external HD being plugged in? If not, then its not even recognizing that a device is being plugged in.
